“Tiny, and relatively inexpensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

We stayed for 5 nights in September for just over £100 per night (taxes inc).

We had a very small room with a shared bathroom across the landing.

We weren't really bothered about the size of the room as we spent most of our time out and about in New York and it was really just a place to sleep.

The hotel is a good location if you want to walk midtown and downtown as it is about equidistant between them.

You can easily walk up to Central Park or down to Battery Park from here.

If you're young / single / couple that doesnt mind where you lay your head at the end of the day, and you just want somewhere central and cheap, this is great.

If you are a family or want some space and privacy, this is probably not for you.

We loved the atmosphere! Ok, the bathrooms are just opposite your room, but it's a short way, and they were always kept very clean. The location is great, not far from the Village, nor the Alphabets, subway station close enough, many restaurants and breakfast cafés very close. We would stay there any time again.
Super Lage, gute Zimmer, etwas altmodische Atmosphäre, aber sauber und freundlich. Badezimmer gleich gegenüber Zimmer, aber immer sehr sauber. Wir werden wieder dort übernachten

We were looking for something less less expensive with a location in lower Manhattan and Hotel 17 definitely met our criteria. Obvious issue for a lot of American travelers is that the bathrooms are down the hall rather than "en suite" but if you can handle that, this is definitely worth the money.

Worked well for a friend and I seeking a twin room for a reasonable price in a good location in New York but not somewhere to impress your better half with.

Had no issues with the shared bathrooms which were clean and empty every time I came to use them.

Rooms not cleaned if not requested but this was made clear on checking in and suited us fine.

If you're working to a budget then this place is fine if not then your own bathroom has to be better doesn't it.

This hotel was very good value. Our double room was spacious and also the shared bathrooms were very clean and was not a problem at all. The staff were also very correct with the guests. You must remember to put the sign on the door if you want your room cleaned as in Europe we dont do this and many people dont put out the sign as they didnt know they had to do this. The hotel is fantastically situated close to Union square and it is easy to get to either Upper or Downtown Manhattan either walking or by underground. Union square is full of great shops and restaurants as is all this area so that was a plus. Please note that on the last day if you are travelling late the hotel will look after your luggage but they do not have a small reception area for guests to wait in or for guests to have a sit down while waiting to go to the airport although you can still use the restrooms. We were really exhausted in the afternoon and so decided to go to the airport a bit earlier as we could sit down there. All in all I would definetly go back to this hotel and it was definetly good value. Also i just must add the pillows where a bit hard and you will probably need ear plugs as the air conditioning machines are a bit noisy.

Room Tip: There are not many rooms with a front street view so do request them otherwise you will be looking i...

We have just had a weeks holiday staying in this hotel and it was absolutely fantastic. The room we were in (616) was perfect. The only thing that was missing were some hanging hooks and perhaps some shelving in the wash area would have been good. This is the Only down comment.Everything else was fantastic. I would certainly recommend to anyone. The shared bathrooms/toilets were never a problem and always spotlessly clean.

It's a very good hotel for its price. Their wood decoration looks very good for me and creates atmosphere of comfort. A single-bed room was small but comfortable having an air conditioner and a safe. Hotel is located close to Manhattan's center several blocks from the subway making traveling across Manhattan fast.

Minor disadvantage is a shared bathroom. But this makes price cheaper and during my 3-night stay at least one of bathrooms was always vacant.

Another disadvantage is look from window. Everything you see are walls. But it wasn't a big disadvantage for me, since I spent most of my time in the city.
