“Better than its counterpart Hotel 31”

I picked this one based on the reviews and the best combination of price and quality ratio. I believe most travelers will agree with me on this method since they have a budget. I also reverted here because the front desk guy at Hotel 31 was rude to me when I inquired about there rates and availability.
Very close to Union Sq (green & yellow line) station going uptown (Times Sq) or downtown (Chinatown).
Stayed there 3 nights. Liked this place for what it is. Very clean bathrooms. I think there was a cleaning guy on 24/7 because I went to the bathroom twice every night and it was cleaned regularly. Staff was friendly in a neutral way. Nothing too impressive so I didn't think much of it. Overall I would stay here again.
One small problem my relative's room the A/C was dripping from the floor above so I put a rag on it and told the staff. The problem was not resolved though and she was a bit annoyed by it.

This place was a little offbeat but very cool and for NYC, an amazing price. It's a pretty small vintage looking hotel on a quiet residential street with hardly any amenties about 5 minutes walk from Union Square(one of the biggest subway stations in NYC). i came to NYC first of August 2011 on the trip of a lifetime and stayed at this place 3 nights and was quite impressed. For $115 a night(with tax) a single room is tiny(very tiny...), but includes a nice bed, a sink, a chair, a window, and wifi that was spotty. The bathrooms were shared, but the floors were small and only 3-4 rooms shared a bathroom so they were hardly ever busy and always spotless clean, cleaner than some private hotel baths I've seen. You don't come to NYC to stay in a hotel room anyway, and as a single guy without much luggage or maintenance needed, this place was excellent and when I return to NYC(and plan to soon... it's an amazing place), I will look at this place before anywhere else. Most hotels on the island of Manhattan will cost 2-3 times a night what this cost. My only complaints would be the erratic wifi(one night it worked good, the next it was trash) and lack of even a vending machine, but it is a short walk from a lovely 24/7 cafe that was good and reasonably priced. If you're not overly picky and are just going to NYC to enjoy the city and not worried about the hotel room, this place is perfect.

“Perfect Location with all you need!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2011

This hotel is in a fantastic location on a quiet and safe feeling street. Less than five minutes walk to Union Square where there are loads of shops, Starbucks (with free wifi) etc and many the 4,5,6, N, Q, R and L Subway lines. Do your self a favour and stay here instead of Time Square and you will see the real New York, not the disneyland version. It's easy to walk to a lot of great areas like the East Village, Chealsea etc. Seriously perfect location.

The room was quite small, we bumped in to each other a bit when getting dressed, but who cares. If you are spending a lot of time in your room then why are you in NYC?! If you are low maintenance type people then you will be 100% satisfied with this place. Sharing bathrooms is not really an inconvenience because there are 4 bathrooms on each floor, only once in a 7 night stay did I have to wait. Well worth the money you save. All double rooms also have a sink and a big mirror so you can clean your teeth etc in your room.

There was an extraordinary heat wave (40+ degrees) when we were there and the aircon did a perfect job at keeping us fridge cool at night.

I can also highly recommend the Gramercy Cafe on the corner of 17th and 3rd ave. A great 24 hour diner with a very wide range of food.

The staff are a bit snooty but ultimately helpful. They called a car to JFK for us when we were leaving which was $55.

The only negative that I have is that the wifi was very patchy in our room and often didn't work at all. It may work better in other rooms.

“Excellent value for money, clean and good location!”

We were really impressed with the hotel and if you want somewhere a bit cheaper than most places in New York but that does not compormise on cleanliness and comfort this is the place for you.

The hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff on the front desk very helpful and it's staffed 24 hours a day. They had a good system to let people leave bags on the day of check out if you were staying after the check out deadline, they were also happy to arrange a shuttle/car to the airport if needed.

Even though the bathrooms our shared we never had to wait for them, there were 2 on our floor (that I know of) and they were remarkably clean. The room had everything you needed with a safe, sink, comfy bed and air conditioning (which was a little noisy but there's not much you can do about that!)!

the location was brilliant, a five minute walk from Union Square and therefore Park Avenue and Broadway. Lots of shops, restaurants and other amenities close by particualrly on 3rd avenue. I never felt unsafe in the area even when walking back at 2am. Union Sqaure subway connects you to other parts of the city quickly and easily, although we chose to walk most places and none of the go-to tourist sites were so far that you couldn't walk (if you're happy to walk a few miles).

“Great value, classic hotel in NYC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2011

This hotel is a great deal if you're looking for reasonably priced accommodations in the heart of NYC. I loved the classic, old NY, architectural details in the lobby and rooms -- dark wood paneling, original cage style elevator, radiators in the rooms. I personally didn't mind having a shared bathroom down the hall; I never had to wait for it and it was always clean. There are several restaurants, coffee shops and stores in the area, and it's not too far (a long walk or a short cab ride) from the Empire State building, Rockefeller Center and other tourist attractions. I would definitely stay here again.
