“Affordable but not special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013 via mobile

This place looks really cute online but is a bit more scrappy in reality. The location is okay and its affordable considering New York's price levels. But the rooms are not super clean and the ceilings creak from the rooms above. The one bedroom suites are spacious enough however and I didn't mind sleeping in the quiet inner room on the futon sofa. It was actually pretty comfortable. My daughter had more trouble in the bedroom where street noise gave her a restless sleep. I would probably stay there again for the price value but its just average in my mind.

This was my first time going to NYC. It was a trip several of my girlfriends and I took so we looked for a place we could pile up in and split the price. We wanted a place in a decent location that wouldn't break the bank.

Off Soho Suites is apartments turned to suites. Unless you were looking for it, you wouldn't even know it was there! It's in between other businesses but it's not an overly busy area. Easy access to lots of eateries, bars, and shopping areas.

The suite is very nice. Not too fancy but I never look for fancy. Spacious and clean for the most part. The glasses in the cabinets had some collected dust but that's about it.

Overall, it was a very great stay. I will visit NYC again and I'll stay there again!

We got back to the UK this morning from a superb trip to New York, and it's a trip that was very much helped to be fantastic by Off Soho Suites on Rivington St - booked through Expedia it came to about £117 a night, which is as cheap as chips for New York. Yes, it's nothing flash, yes, it could be said to be very slightly shabby, but it's comfortable (really good bed and bed linen), it's quiet (well, room 206 is anyway, towards the back of the hotel), and it's incredibly well situated. We bought groceries from a couple of nearby places and cooked some of our meals in our kitchen (though you're in an area where great places to eat and drink are very thick on the ground), we had tea and coffee making facilities at any time of the day or night, and we also had pretty solid wifi, free. The guys on the front desk were very helpful, the laundry in the basement, while basic, was very handy, and they were more than accommodating about us having stuff delivered to the hotel (man, you can shop in NYC!). We'll be back to New York, hopefully later this year, and we'll definitely be back to Off Soho Suites.

Room Tip: Room 206 was on the quiet side of the hotel

The actual location of this hotel is not great. However, it is within walking distance of some of the nicer areas in the city. The rooms are clean enough, but older. The kitchen has pots and pans but NO utensils?! When we asked, they simply said they did not have any.

I have decided that visiting NYC is great if you have lots of money to stay in the nicer hotels.

We stayed in a 2 room suite and it was much larger than I expected! It was basically a one bedroom apartment -- large bathroom, good sized kitchen, spacious bedroom, and eating area / TV watching area where the futon couch / bed are. My husband and I with our two teenage boys found it to be more than comfortable. My sister had the same type room and paid the same price, but hers was a bit smaller -- so you might want to ask for a larger room if available. The front desk staff are very friendly and professional.

The kitchen was equipped with dishes and silverware, a skillet, a strainer and a few pots. BRING YOUR OWN COOKING UTENSILS. My sister asked for a larger skillet and they gave her one, but they do not have cooking utensils. Whole Foods is only 2 blocks away, which is great!

Our room faced the street, so it was noisy a few times at night -- sirens, honking and "happy" bar patrons exiting the German restaurant next door. This was not a huge problem. I would certainly recommend this hotel to others and I would stay here again.

I spent two nights here with friends in a 4 person suite on the 5th floor. We booked fairly late and got a really good rate via the hotel website. However even at full price between 3 of us it would have been good value by NYC standards. Staff were helpful and pleasant. We had a very spacious kitchen/lounge with queen size futon couch/bed, and twin beds in separate bedroom. The couch cover was a little stained, but otherwise the place was spotless. Beds (including couch) were comfortable, and the bathroom large with a good shower over the tub. Although we didn't make much use of it the kitchen was vast with full size fridge/freezer, stove, and enough basic utensils and crockery for 'proper' cooking. (Tip: bring size 2 filter papers for the coffee machine.)
The location was perfect for us. It's not the smartest area of Manhattan and all the better for it in my view. There are good subway connections, bars, and restaurants within a block or two, plus a huge Whole Foods 5 mins away if you're self-catering. The German bar next door was convivial and surprisingly cheap. Pulinos just up Bowery fed us deliciously and amply. The Tenement Museum is 10 mins on foot and well worth a visit.
I'd recommend to similar small groups of friends, or families with older kids.

Room Tip: Go for the self contained 4 person suites if you can. 2 person rooms share kitchen/bath with one oth...

Too close to the Bowery. IF you are a couple looking for an inexpensive place to stay, stay somewhere else! You have to share a bathroom and a fully unequipted kitchen, the size of a closet, and the bedroom has 2 single beds and no room for a dresser. The suites looked better(our friends needed a room for 3), but I'd have preferred to stay in a hotel with a cot than in the "Suite" at Off-Soho. Staff was nice enough but...wouldn't go back and I do not need fancy but this was....just not the place to stay!

Room Tip: DOn't go if there are just 2 of you and you don't want to share a bathroom
