There are plenty of New York hotels with more atmosphere or history or charm or architecture, but for my money...and that, in New York City, is no small concern...the Double Tree Suites at Times Square is the best deal in town. You are literally a few yards away from the Tckts booths for theatre bargains, and only a block or two from most major theatres. There's color galore in the streets below. And above all, you get a suite, so that if you're traveling with anyone else, that person can sleep in a comfortable bed while you watch TV or read or work with your laptop in a separate and well furnished sitting room...or vice versa. Tubs are a bit slippery, but there are handholds to keep you upright. The breakfast buffet is excellent if pricey. So only 4 stars out of 5 possible.
