“Excellent staff, great rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2014

The staff at the Cosmopolitan Hotel is what really stands out - even for a stay where the rooms were lovely and with a location that can't be beat.

You can argue that if you want a more midtown feel, South Manhattan may be a little far off, but you're close to Battery park and even closer to River Terrace, where you can enjoy great morning runs, it's a great hotel. And for first-time visitors, it means either having to learn to use the subway or walk and take in the sights, sounds and smells of the city.

We asked the staff about transportation, laundry and various room issues, and they were always courteous, kind, and very helpful.

The rooms were clean, but small, which is fine, as you don't plan on being there too often. I wouldn't go there with small children who need to be in the room more (e.g. for naps); you will need a bigger hotel for that.

There is no breakfast at the hotel at all, but they are very willing to bring takeout to your room, and in addition to a Starbucks at the corner of W Broadway and Chambers, there is a deli right across the street and a very good restaurant, Edwards, a bit further up W Broadway.

Checked in the first night and found the room to be too small - not even space to out two suitcases on the floor. So I went down and asked if they had anything else, they helpfully showed me a room that was split on two levels with a loft area for the bed which i accepted. However when I got in I found it made me fee very claustrophobic, couldn't even sit up in bed without hitting the ceiling. Not really the hotel's fault, they had shown it to me and I had agreed. So again I went down and asked if I could have my old room back which they did without any complaint. The next night they moved us to a much better room, again with no complaint, they even arranged for our bags to be moved between the rooms while wee were out. It's that kind of service that really makes the difference in a hotel. Downsides - The rooms had noisy air con and there was quite a lot of noise from the street but this is New York City so you expect it at this price point. The area itself is ten minutes from the 9/11 memorial which was really moving and similar distance from the tour bus pick up point, Chambers Street metro is literally by the hotel entrance and there is a handy Starbucks below the hotel. The area lacks much choice of restaurants but you can't have everything. Really pleased with this hotel and would recommend.

Fine hotel at good location for exploring New York. Metro at frontdoor. Noisy airco in the room, but also fan available.
Free and good internet access. Friendly staff. Starbucks downstairs. 9/11 memorial on walking distance. We had a 4 person room and is was very small, also the bathroom space was small for the use and bagage of 4 people.

My room was located at a place like "a dead-end in a maze", but in general was cozy and OK considering the price level. They effectively took care of almost ten pieces of luggage that I brought. Overall, my stay was very satisfactory.

First of all, the location of this hotel is great. It is very close to all the shops, cinema, and restaurants in Tribeca. The staff here are very friendly as well. However, the hall way of the hotel is kinda smelly, and the room are extremely small (as expected, most small NYC hotels are like that). The room smells kind funky as well, the ventilation system of the hotel does not seem work well. Overall, for a three day weekend trip with my bff, the hotel was not bad. Very conveniently located, close to several subway lines.

We've stayed here twice, and it's been great both times. The Queen size rooms are quite spacious while the Double room we had this time was significantly smaller. Their summer deals though can't be beat, so I'd definitely recommend signing up for their email list. The service and housekeeping was impeccable on both visits. When within our price range, it's our go-to place!

The location was perfect for us and a subway station was basically at the front door. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to keep any guest happy. We were shocked at the size of our room, however. Even by NYC standards it was SMALL! How often do you sit on the bed and brush your teeth at the sink at the same time? When we mentioned this to our friends who were staying there, they thought we were exaggerating as their rooms were quite nice. That is, until they saw our room. We spoke to the very kind front desk people and they assured us that we could change rooms in the morning. When my husband referred to our room as a refurbished linen closet, the desk clerk agreed that it was. The second room was lovely and MUCH more spacious, not large because this is still NYC, but very nice. Staff was very helpful, rooms were quite clean and the location is very convenient.
