“Wonderful Older Hotel in Manhattan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

My husband and I went on a shopping spree to New York with a tour group this past December and our stay was at the Salisbury Hotel which is an older but very charming hotel. It's in Manhattan on 57th Street so within walking distance to Central Park, Times Square, and Macy's on 34th. The hotel is very clean and very comfortable even though the room and bathroom are small. We'd definitely stay at this hotel again.

We stayed early September, we were upgraded to a suite and helped up to our room. The room was spacious with a small kitchen area including complimentary coffee, a fridge and microwave. Two flat screen TV's with plenty of channels to choose from. WIFI is not included and you have to pay extra for it, this cost isn't cheap. We toured NY, California and Nevada and this was the only hotel that did not have free wifi included. Continental breakfast was $9 per day and was extremely well presented with plenty of choice and quality. The location of the hotel makes it easily walkable to Central Park and Times Square as well as being suitable located near to several subway stations. There are of course the yellow cabs to take, bit the subway is by far the most cost effective way to travel. The staff were friendly, but not as personal or as caring as some others on our trip, certainly no complaints. The hotel is quite dated and lacks a homely feel. Overall, for the price the hotel is a decent place to stay, but nothing special. I would look for somewhere else next time, but I would use again if I couldn't find anywhere else in the price range.

basic, but clean, a great location and the staff are really freindly. the hotel is a little shabby, in nee d of a bit of a refurb, but for no frills and a great base you can't go wrong. a little noisy, but to be expected. would stay here again

The hotel's location is unbeatable. The hotel is clean and comfortable. Staff is courteous and helpful. As others have mentioned, there is some construction on 57th Street at present, but we did not hear any of it. Our suite was on the 17th floor and on the back of the hotel. I already have reservations there for two trips in 2013!

Room Tip: To avoid street noise, ask for a room at the rear of the hotel.

While the location is great, and it is very close to everything touristy you would do in NYC, the hotel does nickel and dime you for everything. Parking was fairly inexpensive for NYC at $24, but it was on 56th, not 57th where the hotel is, so we had to drive to get the car- just meant we had to coordinate to make sure someone could stay with the car and someone else could bring the bags down, since you can't park in front of the hotel on any day except Sunday (there is a bus stop right there the rest of the week).

The room was spacious for a NYC hotel, and it was also clean, though it was a no frills sort of place. Nice to have a small microwave and fridge in the room. The beds were very hard and not the most comfortable. A noon checkout is nice. There was a weird smell in the hallway and elevator, probably just because the building is so old.

Overall, a fine hotel, though I probably would not come back here unless the price was right. Over $200 for this hotel is a bit crazy, even though the location is great.

Stayed here 9th Sept to 12th Sept 2012. Hotel staff very welcoming and were always on hnad to help. We have never stayed in NYC before so have nothing to compare it to That said the room we had was of a very generous size and was cleaned on a daily basis. Even though there was a lot of construction going on, we did not here a thing. We had a room on the 16th floor at the back. Yes the decor was a bit dated but thats by the by. Our room had a little kitchen area with a fridge sink and microwave and hot drink making facilities (very handy).

The air con was amazin

Great location for times square and central park.

We had a continental breakfast there one morning plenty of choice . The one thing that let it down was the fact it was served on disposable cuttlery .That's the only negative our stay. would def recommend this hotel

Room Tip: I would request a room higher up at the back of this hotel

Tourist standard hotel, a bit like staying in an old aunt's spare room. Old fashioned but comfortable and well maintained. Excellent location. Housekeeping was excellent and reception helpful. Has everything you need from an NYC hotel - a very comfy bed and a subway at the corner of the block. Main downside is the street and aircon noise although earplugs are a good idea we were so tired at the end of the day we would have slept through anything. No noise from corridors or other rooms. Breakfast is fine but there are plenty of tasty delis nearby. Would definately stay here again.
