“Vero good hotel to stay in Manhattan with your family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2012 via mobile

We were at Salisbury Hotel for a week. We are a family of 5 people, 2 parents and three children of 7 years and 17.14.
Our room was a kind of mini-apartments with 1 bedroom, a living room with a sofa bed, bathroom, room for luggage and clothing, an entrance with microwave and table.
The cleanliness of the room was excellent, the staff friendly and helpful. Although the structure looks not really modern, is ideal for the location, steps from central park, 5th Avenue, and 50 metres from the metro. Absolutely recommended. Only a few downsides: high temperature and noise from the street

“Some good, some bad and some ugly...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2012

First the Good:
Prime location on 57th by 7th Ave in Central Park South (right across from Carnegie Hall). Large rooms (really large if you get the suite with two beds and adjoining living room) and the price is very good for Mid-town New York.
Now the bad:
Really no amenities at this property have to go to lobby to go up secondary flight of stairs to get ice. Two old very SLOW elevators. No restaurant, gym or other things you might expect in a hotel. TOO hot. While we were there in Feb. it was over 80 degrees and we had to run window a.c. the entire time we were there as even with heat shut off in room the hotel was just too hot. Internet is $10 for 30 minutes and they even charge this if all you want to do is print out your boarding pass in the lobby using their p.c. Breakfast (continental) is $9 on the 3rd floor daily. Plenty of local deli’s with better selection and as cheap with better food a few doors away.
The Ugly:
The hotel used to be residences (not sure how but so I am told). This meant larger spaces but it has not been updated in 30 years. Peeling paint, low light and just a general feel of old and worn. Carpet looks dirty and old.
Having said this this if you get a really good deal and are willing to deal with the 2 star nature of the hotel then perhaps it is for you. It’s a balancing act but one you should know what you are getting into before you book.

Room Tip: The higher you go the more you escape street noise or ask for a room on the back side of the hotel...

“Great for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2012

This was the second time we stayed at the Salisbury. It is a very clean, comfortable, older hotel with rooms much larger than NYC standards. It is conveniently located to Times Square/ Theater District and to Central Park and many museums, restaurants and convenience stores.. Take advantage of their specials. On our last stay we booked a large double/ double with pantry (fridge, microwave, coffeemaker) for $109 per night. It is a great place to stay.

“Three Star Hotel With Four Star Attributes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2012

My wife and I just returned from a weekend trip to NYC. We stayed at the Salisbury Hotel. The hotel is conveniently located on 57th street between 6th and 7th avenues. A subway station is a few minutes’ walk away. Times Square is easily walkable.

The lobby is small and sparsely decorated. Our room, 707, was rather large, particularly by NY standards and very clean. The room had two double beds, a 36” to 40” flat screen TV, a mini refrigerator, a small micro wave and a wet bar area. The bathroom had a tub/shower combo and was very clean. A hairdryer was in the bathroom. The furnishings, while somewhat outdated, were sufficient for our needs. The room had a large walk-in closet, which included an iron and ironing board and another smaller closet. The beds were comfortable and the bed linens were nice.

The hotel has somewhat of an old fashioned look and feel. The bellmen were very friendly and helpful. Michael, at the desk, was helpful in providing directions and restaurant recommendations.

The only negative was the “voucher” for breakfast. The “voucher” is really an advertisement for breakfast that includes a $9 per person charge, a little misleading and not a good deal.

If you are looking for modern and fancy, this is not your place. If you are looking for clean, convenient and comfortable, this is a great place to stay. If we got a deal, which we did this time, we would book the Salisbury again, in a New York minute.

FYI, the Salisbury is right across the street from the Le Parker Meridien Hotel, home of The Burger Joint. A warning, The Burger Joint has gone downhill fast; long lines, poor service, smaller portions and a bill of $22 for two cheeseburgers, one order of fries (half full) and one tiny soda. The Burger Joint was a regular stop but will not be in the future.
