“A great small hotel even for people who don't like small hotels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

I have to start by saying I have never really enjoyed small, European style hotels. I am the type that likes lots of space in my room and a bathroom big enough for two people to be in it at the same time. The Hotel Elysee is an exception to my rule. First, the staff are uniquely friendly and helpful. Everyone from the front desk to the cleaning staff to the cheerful people who provide breakfast were unusually upbeat and pleasant. Second, the club room where breakfast and evening drinks are provided (included in the room price) was a real treat. It is a cheerful room and a lovely setup. It is true, the rooms (and bathrooms) are small and there is only one elevator for the entire 15 floor hotel, but the rooms are comfortable and clean and once you figure out that you can take the stairs, the elevator stops being aggravating. The location is perfect: near everything but on a relatively quiet block. I will definitely stay here again.

The Staff I can not say enough about... Efficient proficient and smooth! Check-in! Recommendation for dinner (Indian) fantastic "Dawat" service there was also incredible! Food Amazing!!
The young fella who shown us to our room and carried our luggage was very pleasant and comfortable, side note, he also valeted the car... Rooms super clean and decorated with a lot of furniture and fixtures but the room does seem cramped it flows nice!
Great stay! Highly recommend!
I am from Long Island about 20 miles east of NYC...

Staying here was like staying in a small European hotel with all the ammenities. The second floor was our own personal living room, with couches, chairs and tables to rest and meet, and excellent pastries, juices, teas and coffee provided, and lovely wine and cheese at night. I went with several people, and it was a great place to meet up, and to gather before retiring. Centrally located within walking distance of museums and other places of interest. Will stay there again!

Room Tip: 3rd and 4th floor rooms were both excellent: quiet, comfortable, and spacious. There was even a roo...

We just got back from a 4-day stay at the Hotel Elysee. The concierge/guest service staff was WONDERFUL...they helped us navigate the city, made great recommedations for theatre & activities and welcomed us "home" when we came back each afternoon/evening. The breakfast buffet was bountiful, the happy hour wine and cheese service was a nice way to either start our evening activity to catch up after running around in the afternoon. Our room was beautiful and the hotel location was close to everything! Great location, friendly staff, and good food! We would definitely go back. I saw a recommendation to ask for a quiet room, but we found it to be very quiet... heard very little outside noise and were close to the elevator, but never heard that eiher.

This is the most lovely little hotel in midtown Manhattan. Charming cosy rooms, fabulous breakfast service and difficult to find a criticism except some of the excellent ladies from upstairs should be on the all male front desk!

Room Tip: they all seem charming.

We spent 5 days in NYC at the end of a very long trip. Having already been in NYC for a week at the beginning of the trip staying on Central Park we wanted to change up the location and move a bit down 5th. Last year we'd stayed at the Giraffe (in the 30's) , sister hotel to the Elysee , and had a very good experience. The Elysee is on 54th just off 5th and is very well located for shopping. There are also lots of restaurants within two blocks including two right across the street and The Monkey Bar you can access from the lobby. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The wait staff in the lounge/breakfast area were extremely nice. Continental breakfast is very nice, fresh fruit salad, lots of pastries, bagels, toast etc. Big selection of teas. We had a junior suite as our 23yr old son was with us. Quite spacious, slightly worn but fine. The fold out bed however was apparently very uncomfortable for an adult. This was the third fold out hotel bed he'd been in and was the only one he hated. Probably fine for a small child as they would be less likely to feel the bar under the mattress. It's possible that bed just needs a new mattress.
Overall its very good. The single elevator could be a bit slow when it's busy but that wasn't a problem when we were there. I would certainly recommend this hotel for convenience, location and very friendly staff.

Room Tip: We were high on the 10th floor and it was very quiet.
