“Pricey but very nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2011

For us, this is an expensive hotel, but the location, staff, cleanliness, service, etc was excellent. We had a "back" room which was quieter but with no view - we were ok with that - we were not there to look out the window! Safe location, everything worked and the front desk answered all our touristy questions and gave us a map. Close to shops, Central Park, subway, etc. They have the free breakfast (basic stuff) but free coffee, computer all day and a "happy hour" at the end of each business day. Were very happy with the stay.

Warm and welcoming staff, clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated rooms, a relaxing central gathering place to unwind or start your day..classical music, comfortable furnishings, refreshments and nibbles always available. The evening wine and cheese was wonderful. We slept well and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back if peace and quiet is important. We didn't hear a thing!

We arrived after 1 am after a long haul, staff were warm and friendly and this continued through the whole stay. Great staff, helpful and willing. Hotel is in great location to shops, subway, Central Park, restaurants, snack bars etc.. Simple breakfast and drinks on week day evenings ( we were there for a week but managed to miss each night!) is a great touch. Bed was oneof best hotel beds and linen was top quality. Would feel confident recommending this to friends and family.

I am hesitant to review Hotel Elysee, but for entirely selfish reasons. The Elysee is one of those rare places you’d like to keep exclusively to yourself.
I’ll begin by telling you a little bit about ourselves, because I really hate reading these reviews not knowing from what perspective the reviewers are writing from. My wife and I are recently retired (ages 59 and 60 respectively), travel away from our quiet and peaceful home nestled in 2 acres of Tennessee woods located in the suburbs of Memphis about twice a year, and are in good health.
We stayed at the Hotel Elysee for 5 nights, from Tuesday August 30, 2011 to Sunday September 4, 2011. This review will pertain only to room number 55 where we stayed and the opinions are shared by us both, so this is really two reviews in one.
First of all, rather than restate everything you can find already written on the Hotel Elysee website let me just begin by saying that what they have written is factual and honest. They say a room that faces 54th Street, as does #55, is for those not bothered by the sounds of the city. They are correct, as we soon discovered. The outside sounds are remarkably muffled during the day, but at night, for one who is used to night owls and crickets, it sounds like the garbage trucks are in the room with you. However, we learned long ago to bring along foam ear plugs when we travel and they were put to good use here on the week nights. Friday and Saturday nights were remarkably quiet. The room had a king bed that really felt like a Cal king to me (I’m 6’2”). It was nice and firm (the way we like it), and the linins were as soft as any I’ve ever slept in. The down pillows were way too soft and mushy for me, but they have harder foam pillows which they will gladly provide for you. The bathroom was all done in marble tiles (a nice touch). It’s cozy (too small for two people at once), but the important thing is that the hot water never runs out and the shower delivers copious amounts; no low flow water saver shower heads here! The room has a microwave, fridge, iron, ironing board, safe, and bar with sink. The closet extends down an entire hallway so there is plenty of closet space. Overall, the room feels like it’s a part of someone’s lavish home rather than a hotel.
The 2nd floor Club Room is elegant, yet casual. The continental breakfast is consistently delicious, with a nice selection of non-mass produced bagels, pastries and breads, cereals, fruit, and hard boiled eggs. If you need meat, you’ll have to go out because there isn’t any here. I was a huge fan of the coffee, as my wife was of the wide varieties of tea. We stayed here during the US Open Tennis Tournament and many of the European players stayed here, too, with their families. Breakfast is a good time to rub shoulders with them if you are so inclined. One word of caution, though; if you don’t get there before 8 AM all the seats will be taken and they don’t come empty very quickly. However, if you ask one of the beautiful, efficient, and friendly ladies who keep the room stocked and immaculate they will gladly provide you with a tray which you can fill and take to your room. We only were around to try the afternoon wine and cheese one day, but it was great.
The location is superb; away from the high traffic areas, but still close to every place you want to go either by cab, subway, or walking. We love to walk, so that was our principle means of locomotion. Grand Central Station (42nd St) was 10 minutes, Times Square 15 minutes, Central Park 10 minutes, Hell’s Kitchen 20 minutes, Park Ave. 1 minute, 5th Ave. 4 minutes, you get the idea. When we had to go to Flushing Meadows (Mets game, US Open) we took the subway, as we did when we went to a Yankees game. I can’t tell you how pleasantly surprised we were with the subway. We bought a 7 day Metropass that allowed unlimited travel anywhere on the system and it was worth every penny. If you are into people watching it doesn’t get any better than this!
Last, but certainly not least, is the staff. From the moment we arrived until the day we checked out, the front desk staff, the bellmen, the doormen, the housekeepers, the Club Room ladies, EVERYONE was courteous, friendly and helpful. We highly recommend Hotel Elysee.

This is a wonderful hotel. The staff are extremely friendly and so helpful. My husband and I stayed in a Deluxe King and it was beautiful. Plenty of room and nicely decorated. The beds are firm, but we still had a good night's sleep. Never had any problems with the elevator as stated in the earlier reviews. The complimentary breakfast was good - although you do have to grab a place to eat quickly as the room is not very large, but the wait staff is very good about cleaning off an area quickly and helping you find a place to sit. The location of the hotel is great - right between Park and Madison. Easy walk to Central Park, Times Square, 5th Ave. This will be our one and only place to stay every time we go back to New York!
