Great old hotel in good location, close to subway which is ideal travelling around New York.Staff friendly & helpful.Across road are two food outlets with everything you could possible want.Laundry was ideal & cheap to use Inhouse.Would recommend .Kitchenette was ideal combined with marvellous food outlets nearby, plenty of eating places nearby.

Room Tip: For those travellers who do not want to be eating out all the time this is great hotel

Hotel Beacon is in a great location, not far from subway station at 72nd street. 2 blocks from Central Park. 30 min walk to Time Square. Travelling with another adult couple we had a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 bathrooms. Main bedroom had a king bed and the second bedroom had 2 double beds. Bathrooms - main bathroom had a shower over the bath, with toilet and wash basin. Second bathroom had a shower, toilet and washbasin - tight fit, but as big as some that are available in other hotel rooms. Kitchen with full size fridge. Lounge with couch and a couple of chairs. TV's in both bedrooms and lounge room. Supermarket with good quality fruit across the road. Liquor store 2 doors up. Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Room 1106 is 2 bedroom apartment

We were so disappointed in this hotel. It was old, drab and dingy. The furnishings were so old and un kept. The room was small. We had a studio room, with a small kitchenette, thank goodness for this, as there was no restaurant or room service in the hotel. There was a huge supermarket across the road, which sold very wholesome and fresh food. The staff weren't helpful at all. We were never offered any maps or any advice of where to go. Thank goodness for the subway. This hotel is too far away from the main attractions. Tours do not pick you up from this hotel. Cleaning staff were very slow and slack. Our room was never cleaned when we got back after sight seeing. I complained twice...bad service. Would not recommend this hotel.

Stayed 4 nights Sept 2013 as a couple.Lovely clean, quiet room with very friendly and helpful staff.Very appreciative of the laundry facilities on the 5th floor after travelling for a while.Fairway Supermarket(24/7), across the road was excellent for all sorts of food, especially handy for daily breakfast.Plenty of lunch cafes and dinner restaurant choices within walking distance, especially around the next block in Amsterdam St.Central Park & museums are both easily accessible.Would love to return here when next in NYC.

What a gem this Hotel is. We wanted something with a more residential feel in New York so chose the Beacon due its location, nearby facilities and the good feedback it has received. We cannot fault the accommodation - large room, comfortable bed and chairs, a desk which can also serve as a table, kitchenette and great views. The staff are helpful and friendly and always ready to hail a cab if required. The bar is perfect to sit and chill out with a beverage or tea/coffee and light snacks are also available. The Fairway market opposite is a gastronomic delight with ready prepared foods you can enjoy in your room. The café next door is always open, just be prepared to be amazed at how much food they serve up!!
We found the location to be an easy cab ride to almost anywhere downtown - just try to avoid rush hour as they may not be as easy to get.
The proximity to Central Park and the Museum of Natural History was a bonus.
Thanks you everyone at the Beacon for making our stay very enjoyable.

Room Tip: 24th floor, room 12 at the end was superb - views to die for. Almost unnecessary to visit the Top o...

Stayed as a couple. 15th floor, nice view, big room, small bathroom. Clean, tidy, large closet, sleeping area large with ample chairs for relaxing & watching t.v. Kitchenette very handy, Keurig k-cups coffee maker, fridge, toaster, micro. Large flat screen. No complaints. Great supermarket across the street for breakfast supplies, open till 1 am(?), hot and cold food. Viand café next door great for meals throughout the day. Loehmann's Department store also right across the street, good deals on women's/men's clothing/purses/perfume, open late. Downtown subway is 2 min easy walk. 5 min. express train to Times Square. 5 min walk to Central Park, restaurants, 10 min walk to Natural History Museum. We liked Cesca Italian restaurant, 2 min., good atmosphere, excellent food. Would stay at the Beacon again. If you're Broadway Show people you might want to stay a bit closer to Times Square, walking distance to the shows, though the Beacon is still a quick, easy, safe subway ride to and from. Didn't get to the Beacon bar, though it looked to have a good atmosphere, and happy hour deals. Do the Hop on Hop off, great tour, & helps map out the city as to where everything is, we discovered places we wanted to see that were not originally on our list. Highlight for us was NBC studio tour, especially on a Saturday, we are big SNL fans, got to see them setting up for evening show.

Room Tip: We booked well in advance. Our room rate was $325 + taxes, for the king, one room (not the separate...

Stayed two nights, excellent facilities including a small kitchen in the room. Polite and helpful staff.
There is a small café nearby and an excellent supermarket opposite. The restaurant above the supermarket is clean, busy and reasonably priced. Hotel near to subway station, city centre and Central Park .

Room Tip: We had a side room, quiet and good sleep. Had free Wi Fi in the room.
