“Feels like coming home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

Their letterhead says "the jewel of New York " and it is absolutely true. We always enjoyed staying here with our sons when they were younger and now that they have renovated the rooms this hotel is better than ever. We always appreciated the residential upper west side location across from the best supermarket in the city (fairway), and a few blocks from the subway, and all the space of the apartment style suites even when the rooms were quite frankly very tired. The new decor is terrific.

Still nothing luxurious but considerably more stylish and the most practical hotel furniture I've ever seen. The coffee table and end tables all have large open storage under the table top, so you can stow away so much of your luggage or purchases. Two closets with lots of removable good quality hangars means we can steam several outfits and hang them wrinkle free and hang up coats and jackets. A large bureau in the bedroom. The work desk is large and the desk chair is extremely comfortable and a perfect task chair for working, vs. lounging. The kitchenette is clean with a full sized fridge and stocked with plates, cups, utensils. We love to eat a light breakfast in the room and there are so many places to pick up supplies and a Starbucks on the corner. When our kids travelled with us, it was fantastic to bring leftovers back from restaurants, store them in the fridge and reheat in the stove or microwave for snacks.

The bathrooms are very tiny, and the towels are just ok, but they are well stocked with toiletries and the counter space is decent. Lighting is outstanding - the best I've ever seen in a hotel with good overhead and excellent placement of lamps (the new glass bases are very stylish). Given that most of the rooms don't have sunny exposures , (don't expect views) and our living room looked out onto a shaft, lighting makes all the difference between dingy and bright and cheery. Rooms are pretty quiet although for the first time we could hear our neighbours through our bedroom wall although fortunately we were on the same schedule so it wasn't an issue. Mentioned it to the hotel as this has not been a problem before - We were in 601.

We stayed 3 nights, but with all the space and amenities, this is a hotel you could easily stay at for longer stays and never feel cramped. The bed and pillows were very comfortable . The climate control worked well and was easy to adjust. Very helpful and pleasant staff. If you are driving, parking is nearby for $40 /night.

Room Tip: 601 was fully renovated and very spacious, but noise from the adjoining room can be clearly heard in...

This was a fantastic accommodation for our family of 3. We were upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite with 2 bathrooms, which was a massive bonus. The staff were fantastic, the hotel is crisp, clean and exceptionally comfortable. There is an easily accessible laundromat in the hotel. We were initially worried that we might be a bit far out but there is an express subway stop just 200 metres or so from the hotel entrance, and in 1 express subway stop we were in Times Square! The hotel is next to a fantastic diner, a beautiful market with oodles of lovely produce, and a couple blocks from central park and the museum of natural history. I would live here if I could!

Stayed at the Beacon Hotel for six nights, with four of us in a 1br suite (two rooms, two double beds plus rollaway). Great location very accessible to the subway, Lincoln Centre and Central Park. Just a little less hectic than midtown. Lots of good restaurants nearby in Amsterdam Ave and Columbus Ave. Good rooms, bathroom ok, small kitchen so breakfast provisions from two supermarkets across the road on Braodway. Would definitely go back

This is a very good hotel in an excellent location. The rooms have self-catering facilities and with 'Fairways' across the road this was a bonus. The rooms are well-equipped. Not only did we have an oven, microwave and large fridge-freezer, we also had a suite with two massive flat screen TVs and it could easily have accommodated four people. We had three walk-in wardrobes and masses of places for storage.

The free WIFI was appreciated, as were the additional ICT faclities on the ground floor, enabling us to print out our boarding passes for our return trip. The hotel is in easy walking distance of 72nd subway stop, Central Park, the Lincoln centre and several museums.

The Beacon next door hosted the Fox Autumn schedule presentation and celebrity spotting wouls have been an option if our suite had not been so comfortable! (sorry Simon)

Room Tip: Our room overlooking 75th Street was very peaceful

This hotel is very nice, clean and in a great location on Upper West Side. Room has a small kitchenette which is useful in the morning for tea, coffee and breakfast. Small fridge so you can keep all the necessities. Nice bathroom, fantastic water pressure for the shower! Lots of restaurants, shops with groceries, fruit market across the road, pharmacy close by, everything is ver convent. Just a couple of short blocks to the subway. We took the subway to Time Square in 15 min for the hotel. Very close to Central Park, about a 10 min walk. All in all a terrified hotel and I would not hesitate to stay here again.

The room was spacious, really good bed, big kitchenette, friendly staff, good location close to an efficient subway station, close to a big market +++. Clean.

Only down was that the A/C wasn´t functioning properly, but would probaby have been resolved if we had reported it.

Room Tip: Above 5 or 6th floor.
