“Hidden Jewel on Park Avenue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012 via mobile

I often stay in boutique hotels in Manhattan when I travel there 4-5 times a year. I was pleasantly surprised by this little gem. Everything I was looking for; great location (2 blocks from Grand Central etc.); super quiet neighborhood at night but walking distance to restaurants and bars, very well-maintained small hotel environment. Free WIFI is a plus. Free gym at Equinox nearby. Excellent sushi restaurant in the lower level, and Jazz at the Kitano in the dining room at night. Room was spacious (by NY standards), very neat and quiet. Staff could have been a bit friendlier but overall I would (and have) recommend the hotel for any business or vacation traveler.

My partner and I stayed for three nights. As he was in the city on business, I had the chance to explore the area. Thank you to the concierge who provided me with a map and helpful information on sightseeing in the city. It was very cold during our visit to the city, so the hotel's warm atmosphere made arriving back in the evenings feel extra special. We were particularly impressed with the lavish bathroom and the view from our room. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

We stayed here for 4 nights in August and it was a very pleasant experience. The hotel is extremely well situated and we could pop down to the diner opposite Grand Central for breakfast
each morning . We were given a room with a magnificent view of the Empire State building which again is only a couple of blocks away . The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel is very clean and quiet . If you like a lot of action and people around this is perhaps not the hotel for you , as it is quite a reserved atmosphere . The room was very well appointed and large and the beds were extremely comfortable. We had a our 12 year old grandson with us and this was not problem to anyone in the hotel the staff were all very nice to him . The concierge was informative and helpful and booked us tickets for the 9/11 memorial and for a show . All in all very good value and we would go back .

Room Tip: We had a wonderful view of the empire state so I suppose it is possible to request that .

We stayed for 4 nights. A very good experience except for having to pay for coffee that was used in the room !!!! I have never had to pay for coffee/tea before in a bed and breakfast or a hotel. We were upgraded to a beautiful room which was quiet and the staff were very helpful at all times. There is free wi fi in the lobby area.

The location of the Kitano could not be better for access all over town. Less than five minute walk to Grand Central. The room was spotless and extremely quiet. The service was outstanding. Didn't have time to try out the food or any extras but it is often hard to find a quiet room in Manhattan and this surpassed expectations.

We made our booking through Priceline, so we were not expecting the greatest room. You can sometimes get squeezed into the worse space they have, thanks to getting a cut price deal. Having said that, when we checked in, the front desk staff gave us a choice of two rooms. Although our window faced a brick wall, the room was spacious, clean, and comfortable.

Concierge was fabulous.. The guy there helped us with dinner, brunch & show bookings every day. He gave recommendations and then even called our cell phone to advise of booking status.

We didn't dine in the restaurant, so I can't comment on food, however I know they have a live jazz band in there on Sunday afternoons, which I could hear from the lobby, and it sounded wonderful.

The hotel is a short walk to grand central station, which connects you to everywhere. Get a unlimited train pass for $29 if you're staying longer that three days. Otherwise, it's a 20 minute walk to central park, and 20 minutes in the opposite direction to walk to time square.

I would highly recommend this hotel for any non Japanese traveller visiting New York as they will find how Japanese hospitality in service industry make the people comfortable and cozy. Excellent Japanese restaurant in the basement and traditional Japanese foods are served as bit higher yet reasonable price.
