“Wonderful Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

I just wanted to take a moment to say that was stay at The Kimberly was excellent. The staff was friendly, the hotel was clean and we loved the size of the rooms. I would definitely return again to enjoy this top notch hotel. Also a great location for getting around Manhattan. I would recommend this hotel to my family and friends. By the way my wife's name is Kimberly so she got a free robe, she really loved that.

New York hotel rooms are usually cramped, but not here. The two room suite had room enough to entertain fellow guests. The staff in the lobby was helpful. I wish their internet wasn't $13.00 a day, given the price of the room. The hotel is very near the 6 and the E subway lines and very convenient for Rockefeller Center, Museum of Modern Art, and the 5th Avenue shopping area.

Room Tip: Some rooms have balconies, some do not. If you care, ask for one.

This hotel is very friendly: We arrived 3 hours before check in time. They gave us a room free of charge. Kimbely Hotel is very quiet, clean and its location is outstanding. The relationship quality-price is perfect. I highly recommend it!!!!

Room Tip: I chose one room which has : kitchen, dining room and bedroom

We booked a luxury King one bedroom suite at the Kimberly Hotel. The price was comparable with other hotels in the same area, but we got more than just a hotel room - our suite included a bedroom with huge (american king size - way bigger than UK king size) bed with a large flat screen TV and walk in wardrobe as well as a large dresser and side tables - plenty of storage for everything - as well as a good size balcony, a separate and very comfortable living room which included a large sofa, a desk and chair, a dining table and two chairs, a coffee table and a large flat screen TV, a large marble tiled bathroom with his and hers sink unit, huge bath with over bath 'rain' shower, and a vestibule area which included a little sink unit, microwave, coffee maker and fridge. There was also a coat cupboard. There was also every amenity you could need - two powerful hairdryers, an electric shoe polisher, an iron and ironing board, and even an umbrella. Even though it is in the heart of midtown, it was incredibly quiet and peaceful - the hotel was fully booked whilst we were there but we never heard a peep from any other guests so maybe due to excellent sound proofing? Handy hint #1 - which we picked up as a hint from other trip advisor reviews - there is a bar up on the Penthouse floor of the hotel so avoid a room on the 30th floor as this is directly beneath the bar and therefore apparently noisy! We were on the 21st floor and it was wonderfully quiet. Handy hint #2 - there was no milk included in the free coffee and tea making facilities - if you go out of the hotel and turn right, there's a little shop a few yards up where you can buy small bottles of fresh milk as well as individual tea bags, coffee etc. The only thing our room lacked - the universal truth of every hotel I've ever stayed in - was sufficient coat hangers! So bring a few extra if like me you like to hang everything up. (To be fair the staff at the Kimberly was so obliging that I think if I had asked for extra hangers, they would have provided them!). We found everyone at the hotel - from the receptionists to the concierge to the doormen and housekeeping people - to be delightful, friendly and helpful. Handy hint #3 - there is a business centre down in the lobby (it's just a couple of computers with printers) - very useful for finding your way around New York on foot - we went onto Google Maps, put in details of the hotel and the place we wanted to visit, and printed off a map which we could then follow whilst out walking. We also used the computers to find out local information, book tickets etc. - you could also do all of this through the concierge if you are not confident on the computer. Handy hint #4 - for an authentic and reasonably priced american breakfast there's an American Diner right next door to the hotel - very good for food - we had breakfast there a few times and also one night had burger and fries, also very good.
In terms of location, this is a fantastic hotel - we walked easily to all of the following: Trump Plaza, Tiffanys, Bloomingdales, Saks, Radio City Theatre, Central Park, FAO Schwarz, Macys, Rockefeller Center (Top Of The Rock), Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, Times Square, Hard Rock Cafe, St. Patricks Cathedral. It's surrounded by plenty of bars, restaurants and shops and it was great not to have to spend a fortune on taxis or get the subway.
Our top recommendations in terms of what to see: If you are there over the December period, (1) you must not miss the Rockettes Christmas Show at Radio City Music Hall - fantastic show, great fun for all ages and so Christmassy! (Handy hint #4 - it's a very popular show, buy your tickets online in advance to get the best seats and avoid a very long queue at the box office on the night! If you buy online, you can take the online purchase receipt to the box office the day before to collect your tickets - you will also need photo ID - a passport or photo driving licence - and the credit card you paid with). (2) The Top of the Rock Observation Deck of the Rockefeller Center - absolutely amazing spectacular views of NYC - for me it's better than the Empire State Building. We went online and checked what time sunset was for the date in question, and booked our tickets online for that time of day, so we had the pleasure of being up on the observation deck to watch the sunset over New York - it was breathtaking. So I would recommend purchasing tickets online in advance - again saves on a massive queue (we just zoomed past this long line of people) and you can pick what time you go up there. Once you are up on the deck you can stay as long as you like,
So overall we had a fantastic stay at the Kimberly and would recommend it on location and comfort. Final handy hint!! - the price of our stay quoted on our online hotel booking only mentioned in very small print that the price did not include a 15% sales tax etc. - so read the small print to avoid any nasty shocks at check out!!!

Room Tip: Avoid the 30th floor! Some of the rooms have a view of the Chrysler building - ask at check in.

The hotel seems like it should offer more for the money. The bathtub does not drain so my husband pulled out the drain stopper. I could not put it back and had to call maintenance. They claimed it works but it really doesn't.The room has two small rooms which is nice. The lobby is very small. We arrived from an international flight. I did not feel the front desk went out of their way to get us an early check in. They were not nice when we asked when we could get a room just stating check in is 3 pm. This was at 9 am. I asked if they had a workout room where I could shower. They said no but after I checked in I learned they give free passes to a nearby gym which blew my mind after I asked specifically about getting their help. We paid over $400 per night!

Myself and a friend stayed at The Kimberly after reading the reviews and were very happy with the whole experience. After some of the not so favorable reviews I'm convinced that some folks just aren't satisfied with anything! It's a very charming old building to be sure but full of beauty and character. The room was huge and just gorgeous decor. The staff was great and the location was just another plus. Close to everything! Will definitely stay here again when in town.
