“Upstairs (Rooftop) Bar at the Kimberly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2011

Surprise party at the rooftop bar for my sister in-law. Great views of the city and the Chrysler Building. Not very large, but nice and cozy to hang out on a summer evening with friends and have a few cocktails and appetizers. You really don't have to get dressed up. One elevator that takes you to the rooftop is very small. Nonetheless, still gets you there. Fun place in NYC. Retractable roof in case of rain. It happened to rain that night, so to see the roof open and close and the moon was quite romantic and just very cool. Waitstaff very attentive.
As for the Hotel itself, Mini kitchenette, you can eat breakfast in the rooms. You walk right outside and you are an easy walk to shops, cafes, restaurants, Central Park. Hotel is very clean, amenities perfect. Don't miss this gem!

My mother, two sisters and I stayed in the two bedroom suite for a long weekend last year and absolutely loved it! It is conveniently located within walking distance of tons of stuff. The mini kitchenette (refrigerator, glasses, snacks) allowed us to eat breakfast in the room every morning looking out the window at the river. Our patio was fabulous to sit on and feel the hustle and bustle of the city from above. The living room has a pull out couch and windows all around. We are returning this year and staying in the exact same room. The staff was friendly and informative. We cannot wait to return!

Room Tip: Two Bedroom Suite is great for 3 or more people!

I stayed there on business on 08-08-11 and all I can say was this was a fantastic hotel experience. Starting from the assistance with Linda in reservations I cannot come up with one complaint. The room was very spacious, comfortable and very clean. Check in and out went very smoothly and I felt welcome from the minute I pulled up to the curb. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, and look forward to returning with my wife in the near future. The roof top bar was spectacular providing an awesome view of the East side.

The Kimberly is a gem of a hotel. Beautiful (clean) rooms, friendly staff, awesome location. We have stayed in NYC many times, but this hotel is worth a return visit. Off the beaten path of Broadway, but an easy walk to theater, great shopping, cafes, restaurants, and sights.

Our only negative would be the rooftop bar and incredibly slow elevators that service the penthouse and the other 30 floors. We tried to visit it twice (10pm and 5pm) but could not get in either time --- too noisy/crowded and afternoon private party. Not too worry though, there are wonderful bars and cafes down every block and none of them need an elevator to get to. Give them a try for a wonderful NYC experience!

Unfortunately, we are sad to say that this is the first hotel that we have ended up leaving early. We stayed here early this year and enjoyed our stay except that our suite was in dire need of renovation but was furnished, as a suite should be. When booking this stay we informed the hotel we would like to stay in a renovated luxury suite as it was a special birthday/occasion and if possible on a much higher level than our last stay. They informed us that they reserved it for us. Unfortunately, it was one floor up from our last stay and the suite was indeed renovated, a much smaller suite, sparsely furnished, uncomfortable couch, a mattress that needed replacing as it had a big dip on one side. We realized that we would be more comfortable at home than staying here. We couldn't watch tv in the living room as it was so uncomfortable. What a shame as we were really looking forward to our stay there and the suite we booked was one that was priced as the highest for a luxurious one bedroom king suite. The bathroom was extremely small, as well. The first night when we were leaving for our dinner reservation we both scanned the entire two rooms(suite) for a full length mirror to check our attire and there was not one to be found. We really couldn't believe it as we have never stayed in any hotel that didn't have this! The elevator smelled of paint, and chemicals during the day when we would come and go as we found out from their staff that was in the elevator that it was due to the work they were having done on the floors around us. We were really disappointed with our stay and decided after the first night we were going to cancel the extended weekend there and get in our car and go home. However, we can give this hotel a credit for the cruise they offer which we paid for and enjoyed even though it was storming. You will see our first review from February was a complete different experience and we are so disappointed with this as we will not be returning. We will be returning to The Surrey as it always stays consistent as it should be.!!!

We loved this hotel. The service was great. The location of the hotel was centrally located to Central Park and great places to eat. The theatres are are about 6 to 8 blocks away. A short cab ride or a liesurely walk, and you are there in no time.
The room and amenities were great. The bathroom was so nice, and the bed was to die for.
I do think, however, to not get free internet is a puzzle to me since you get
everything esle, never the less we treated very well and would not hesitate to return.
The rooftop restaurant was a bit smaller than the photos indicated. It seems to be great for young and single folks.
The Kimberly Sunday Yacht brunch was quite a treat. My wife and I were very pleased.

We loved our one-night stay at the Kimberly. Although our room had a totally depressing view (bags of garbage and construction debris), the room itself was gorgeous, with a separate sitting room, enormous marble bathroom, and king-sized bed heaped with fluffy pillows. We slept comfortably and quietly. We were too tired--and it was too hot--to check out the rooftop bar, but hope to do so on our next visit. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. In a city where even a poor-quality room can easily cost more than $300 a night, the Kimberly is more than a bargain: it's an oasis. Highly recommended.
