“Stylish, comfortable, authentic and the nicest location in downtown”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

We hired both studios for ourselves and our two teenage children. Fabulous location in the heart of the West Village, with wonderful shopping and a cool, retro vibe (Bob Dylan and girlfriend on the Freewheelin' album cover taken in this street) easily walkable to so many interesting and iconic sights and neighbourhoods, with two subway stations minutes walk away.
The studios are very stylish, furnished with beautiful vintage and antiqueish furniture, warm, fragrant and lovely to come back to after a hard day's sightseeing, The beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms perfect, and the little kitchens well-equipped for preparing breakfasts and dinners if you occasionally want to eat in. Evelyn the aimiable host gave us a very helpful dossier of information and it was good to know she could be contacted easily if needed. This is definitely the place to book if you appreciate peace and calm after a day engaging with the frenetic energy of NY, and if you like thoughtful, authentic chic rather than bland or brash hotels. A little bit of heaven in the Big Apple.

“Loved Jones Street!!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012 via mobile

My daughter and I found Jones Street guesthouse to be the perfect location for us! We did not need to catch a cab once as the Uptown/Downtown line was only a short walk away. We enjoyed the jazz as it was played from the cafe across the road and also the opportunity to walk to some of the best jazz clubs in the city to hear charts that made the heart sing! Soho is in walking distance, Doma restaurant just around the corner for delicious breakfast and great coffee! There are a myriad of other well priced restaurants and excellent strip shopping available at all four points of the compass. Near to the exquisite Washington Square garden too. Lovely owners and great cleaners! We will return as it was such a different experience to staying uptown and by far, a superior experience! Thank you Jones Street!

“Great location for downtown ny”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

We chose the first floor studio for our week in downown NY. The key collection arrangement worked as promised and the bed was comfy. There was plenty of hot water and the water pressure for the shower was excellent.
We probably didn't understand that first floor meant half way under ground but that was ok although the apartment is a bit dark . Lights neded to be on both day and night. The apartment is very well located between two subway lines at Seventh and Sixth Avenues which was a huge bonus and benefit for getting around quickly.
It's in the middle of the village, there are more places to go to and eat at than you could possibly test in months. While the evening street life is a bit noisy it was expected and ended at a reasonable hour.
We had difficulty with the wifi which our hosts dealt with quickly with a signal repeater placed in the apartment. This solved access on our tablets (both android and iPad) but not our phones. Our hosts couldn't get wifi via their phones either.

The TV signal doesn't really work but we weren't there to watch tv.

The Doma cafe does good coffee (another bonus - NY coffee seems a bit hit and miss) and the staff at the cafe were lovely. The laundry service across the road was very efficient and good value.

The apartment didn't come with a starter kit of tea, milk, sugar or any bathroom soap which we had expected, as that's what we've experienced in other apartments both here in NY and around the world.

If you are looking for location, privacy and convenience, this is a good choice.

“2 Weeks in September”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

My Wife and I stayed in the upstairs apartment for 2 weeks in September and it is fantastic. This is easily the best neighbourhood in NYC. Heaps of great restaurants nearby, walking distance to the subway and it feels very safe.

The room is a decent size and the perfect base for an extended stay in NYC, a much better option than a hotel. You will certainly feel as though you're a local after spending a few nights here.

There's a little noise outside, however I found it quite entertaining listening to some of the conversations!

I can't recommend it highly enough.

“Awesome location, wonderful place to base yourself to see NYC and feel like a local!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

perfect location right in the heart of the Village. We stayed on the ground floor room, which was a bit noisy, but hey - you're in New York! It's such a buzz to be right in the heart of all the action. There are sooo many amazing restaurants within a block or two of the guest house, which is great. We are also huge jazz fans, and there are three wonderful jazz places (The Village Vanguard, Small's, and Cornelia St Cafe Jazz) all within walking distance as well.

Evelyn was extremely helpful with providing an information pack ahead of time, so we were able to get a sense of what sort of places we'd want to go to, where to eat, etc... which we really appreciated!

Having the little kitchenette was nice; we could have breakfast in the room, or else go to Doma, etc... - again, there are just so many options in the area!

We didn't seem to get the room cleaning figured out - it didn't seem to happen on the days it was "supposed to", and then we got a clean on a day that we didn't think we should have! But it wasn't a big deal. I think the room servicing was supposed to be roughly every second day, which would have been fine.

We will definitely be back to New York, and this would definitely be the place we would stay again! Nice to be in the midst of all the action, but in a safe area with lots of great dining experiences available at the doorstep!
