“Good place to go after theater”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

Please keep in mind it is a pub, so the service and food to expect is at pub level.  We went right after the theater for dinner and were surprised with the food, (honestly we had low expectations, we wanted to stay close to our hotel and have simple food, at a minimum a burger).  We ordered regular pub fare: fish and chips and a burger.  The burger was cooked as ordered, exactly what we were looking for.  The fish was also very good with a light batter. Only dissapointment was with the fish and chips which, instead of sliced fried potatoes, came wirh french fries.

“Great location for tourists”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

This bar is nicely located by many theaters and time square. It is an irish bar in NY, so it has your typical selection of drinks and food. The food is decent, but not spectacular, like most irish pubs. The drinks are well made, the service friendly, and the random strangers plentiful. The location makes it a great place to go while visiting NY, to meet for drinks after work or for a bite to eat after a show. I would not recommend this place to someone looking for a fancy dinner. Its very nice for a pub, but its still a pub.

“Pub food and pub noise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

We ate here before going to the theater so location was everything. It was crowded and noisy but the service was very good in spite of the crowds. I had the Shepherd's Pie and my spouse had the Crab Cakes. We both enjoyed our food but there was nothing special about mine. The price was fair and service was decent.

“LOUD, crowded, and the place to be for thirty-somethings. Good food, too!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

We were a bit surprised when the response to our email request for reservations was made by the owner himself, Emmet O'Lunney. Pleasantly surprised, when he offered us complimentary desserts, since we were coming all the way from Georgia. We arrived at 6:00, to be sure and have time to be seated at the nearby play Wicked, and the young lady who greeted us seemed overjoyed to see us. We were led through the throngs of people and seated in a place that might be the quietest place in this large pub/restaurant. But we still had to speak very loudly to hear each over over the heavy beat of the music--which didn't seem to bother the huge crowd of patrons. This was a Thursday late afternoon during unseasonably cold weather, and the twenty- and thirty-somethings were having a great time. It made us wish we were back in that age group!

The service was excellent, and the food very good. We wish it were possible to give a 4.5 star rating on TripAdvisor--but having eaten at Daniel Restaurant during our three-night visit, it's tough to give anyone else 5 stars right now. Of course, you can eat at Emmett's and have good food and drinks six times for the price of one trip to Daniel. I had crab cakes and mixed vegetables; she had shepherd's pie; both were very good. The mai tai's were perfect, and the Guinness wasn't bad, either. The value here is excellent by New York standards, and the owner is justifiably proud of his establishment; we received another email from him that night, asking if we were satisfied with the food and service. We certainly were!

We would certainly visit again if we were in the area.
