Look up the definition of extraordinary in a culinary dictionary and you will see a photo of Casellula's stuffed peppadew peppers, their pigs butt (not the actual word used, but Tripadvisor says the actual word, which is pass without the 'p', is profanity!) sandwich and a glass of Matchbook Tinto Rey. A true perfect bite is what those peppers are........all of our future NYC weekend forays will now include a meal at Casellula. We stopped here this past Saturday at 5:30 hoping to beat the crowds, and we did, though just barely, as the place was full by 6:15. Decor is hip, bright; so too is the service. We told our server the kinds of cheese in general that we love and he prepared a terrific tray that was in keeping with our described tastes - so so enjoyable, with inventive accompaniments like a tiny slice of white chocolate fudge to pair with a goat's milk blue cheese - who would have thought?, not me anyway, but wow, fantastic as a paired bite! The tangy salty sharpness of the cheese, paired with the not overpowering sweetness of the fudge - a rockin' combination, for sure.
As far as the pigs butt (remember, pass without the 'p'!) sandwich, which is a Cuban sandwich stylistically - my uber-carnivore husband said, twice, that this was the best sandwich that he had ever had, EVER. He does not gush, he does not effuse. So please understand, that is saying ALOT, and, well, enough said!
