“Great for a single on a budget”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

Murray Hill Inn was the first hotel i stayed at in New York. This was back in 2007. I was on a budget and decided to stay here, and i liked it very much. Sure, you can find much better hotels in NY, but keep in mind those often cost wayyy more.
The location was excellent, the rooms were clean, and the staff was friendly.

stayed here for a month in may. I was attracted by the cheap price, location and quick move in. What they don't tell you is that there is a $300 application fee, $50 electric, and $75 cleaning fee. They didn't mention any of those costs. The guy just kept bulls@#ting me. I asked how many channels they had and if the wifi was good. I'm not sure he said. "we've had no complaints". Turns out the wifi is awful!!! Forget about streaming video! The TV has 6 channels which of course this guy knew but refused to tell me. The room was a closet and they said $1700 but when all was said and done it was $2125, plus they charged a 3% fee for the creditcard!!! Trust me you can find much better places...

We stayed here for 9 nights in 2008 and it was ideal for our needs. It was my first trip to NY and the hubby had only been once before. All we really wanted was somewhere to crash after our days of sight seeing and this was perfect. En suite was fine. Room was cleaned and tidied daily if we wanted it. This also included our beer which was on the table, being put in front of the air con unit to keep it cool! The hotel was within walking distance of many attractions, and there is a fantastic Mexican restaurant across the road from the hotel which dis fantastic margaritas. There were plenty of local shops to grab coffee from in the morning. The only downside is that there is not tea and coffee making facilities in the room, however, this seems to be a very British thing as have often found this to be the case inAmerican hotels.
This place isn't luxurious, but that is reflected in the price. The staff were helpful and recommended places to eat etc nearby.

This was my first stay in NYC. I chose the Murray Hill Inn because it was a decent price and the location was close to everything - quick walk to the subway, and Grand Central Station, Empire State Building and Times Square were also within easy walking distance.

The location was probably the best part about the hotel, along with the friendliness of the staff. Although the rooms were fairly clean they were teeny tiny (even for NYC standards) and the bedhead fell off the wall several times. The bathroom was shared and was next to our room, which was both good as we didn't have to walk very far, but a pain too as I woke up everytime someone used the bathroom. Also there was no lifts, so for 2 girls with lots of luggage that was a bit of a pain. Thankfully we were only on the 2nd floor.

I probably wouldn't stay here again, mostly because I now know there are places that we better value for money.

I stayed here in Dic 2008. I remembered from this hotel is that it was in a good location but everything else was below my expectations.
We stayed in a room on the ground floor. The room's heating system was very noisy and we didn't have one night of good sleep.
If you are looking for a place where to keep your luggage, have a bath and some sleep then Murray Hill is ok.
If you are looking for something else than a bed and a shower go somewhere else.

The hotel was not a nice hotel. Dingy feeling, small and cramped. Was a fiasco. DONT STAY HERE unless you absolutely have to.

The corridors accessing the room were frighteningly narrow. The room was quite small with bare floors that amplified sound. From the room above a baby bawled most of the night while the heat pipes rattled. The location of the hotel is good but not the best. There is a parking garage right around the corner which is convenient and WiFi is available for a fee. Hairdryers are reluctantly distributed at the front desk. The mattresses and pillows are very, very, firm. A $5.00 rebate was offered for online reservations but the innkeeper refused to honor that at check-out. An economy hotel is what you pay for and its website is more flattering to the place than it actually is.
