“Very Hot and noisy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

I stayed for just over a week in a 3rd floor room at the front of the building. The staff were friendly. The room was incredibly warm and the window wouldn't stay open. The decor is awful. The breakfast is okay, but those serving you are not exactly friendly. The only real plus was that I didn't see any cockroaches. For a hotel of this standard that is a step up.

I stayed 5 nights at the Chelsea Inn. The staff were magnificant, the rooms were clean and quirky, the location however, is what made it. Near enough to walk to everything, close to the subway, and some fun little diners, shops and iconic places like the empire state building, battery park, alphabet city, the village etc etc. For all their proximity to everything, the rooms were quiet (i stayed in two different ones as i had a guest for 2 nights). I would highly recommend staying there!

I was in NYC twice in 3 weeks for a business trip, stayed both time in here.

*Location*

It is a really convenient location not far from the Subway (it took me 20 min door to door to be in Century 21). Union square is also not far. There is enough restaurants and market around to satisfy all the needs and cravings.

*Price*

Very reasonable for this part of town, it includes a breakfast that you can take in the restaurant next door. It consists of a coffee and bagel, perfect for a New York breakfast. You can also convert this breakfast ticket to a 10% discount for lunch or dinner.

*Room*

Very very clean, I was utterly surprised. The staff is very quiet and swift to answer requests. The room is basic but comfortable enough. Internet is reliable and fast. The shared bathroom, which was a real scare for me, was very clean as well. All of those are not high hotel furnitures but they are good enough and it does the trick.

All in all, I will be back there next time I am in business in NYC.

Room Tip: As there is no elevator, try to ask for a room at the 2nd floor.

Compared with other hotels in New York, the price is acceptable and the location is good. We can get to the subway around 3-5 minutes and it is very close to the fifth avenue. The staff is quite friendly, but the reception is not opened for 24 hours and it will close at the night time. There is a time table for opening hours, we can call the staff if we have any problem. There is no lift and we need to carry our luggage to upstairs. Once we got to the room, we heard that there was some sound of water dropping, we were so nervous and we were afraid to go inside the room. When we went inside, we found out that someone forgot to close the water tap. Moreover, we didn't know that our bathroom is a share bathroom, so we didn't pay attention and lock our washroom door. Later, we found out that someone came to our room, we are really surprised and scared!!

I stayed here for ten nights with my boyfriend. Considering what we paid for the stay, we were very happy with what we got. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and even though the rooms were a little worn down they were very clean. The location is great! And our room was not noisy at all. I would stay here again for the good value and the nice staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back if you want a quiet room.

We stayed here for a few nights only around mid december. Arrived very late at night, and we had contacted the hotel beforehand. A man named Mr Foreman met us on arrival. We had to carry our two big luggages and two small handcarry bags up 3 flight of stair as there weren't any lifts. Our room was around the back of the hotel, and we shared our bathroom with another room. The bed was comfortable, free Wifi and free breakfast (coffee & muffin) were the hotel's main positives. Subway just around the corner, and Union Square was a few blocks away. We could hear noise from the club nearby and at times were bothersome. The area constantly had people around and we felt safe walking at night. Otherwise, the hotel was reasonable and comfortable.

Room Tip: With no lifts, you might want to get lower levels especially with heavy suitcase.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

We were meeting friends who had a long layover in NYC on their way back home to Australia. This is where they were booked & we wanted to stay in the same place for convenience. I saw mixed reviews, and was nervous about choosing this hotel. Right before we left, my friends texted and said the place was terrible...so then I was really nervous. They ended up changing rooms, and their 2nd room was fine.

We checked in quickly, and walked to our 2nd floor room (no elevator, but that's fine with us). The hotel is somewhat hostel-style in that you share a bathroom with your next door neighbor. Since it was a Thursday night, we didn't have a neighbor, so we had the bathroom all to ourselves. The bathroom was clean and roomy. The room itself was quite large by NYC standards. It had an in-room safe, large walk-in closet area, pull-out bed (in case you a had a guest), fridge, and sink. The bed was fine and so were the blankets.

I read reviews that said the club next door was loud. Since we went out for the evening, the club was closing when we got back to our room, so it was nice & quiet. We also couldn't hear any noise from the street. The only noise to complain of came from the fridge, which was annoying.

The next day we used our complimentary coupons to go the cute Belgian restaurant next door (ask to be seated in the way back) to get bagels (good) and coffee (terrible). If you don't want to use your coupon, you can order off the menu (the waffles, specialty coffees, etc. looked delicious). Too bad we didn't know before the morning that this cafe also serves tons of different kinds of Belgian beers that we normally can't get.. We would have started our night there.

If you need to leave the hotel for the day but don't want to take your things with you, you can leave them with the front desk until 3. We were able to park nearby in a parking garage ($40 for 24 hours).

I recommend this hotel for the convenience, price, ease of booking, free breakfast, etc. It's not a Hilton, so don't go into it expecting it to be.
