“Hip, Tapas, Lower East Side Youth”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

Great Tapas - fabulous service. Real young crowd but even though I'm a fossil I enjoyed all that young vibe around. Loud music so not great for chatter, but we rose above it with laughter!

“New York Hot spot.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

This place was full of people when we arrived at 8.30pm. And it was noisy. Our table wasn't ready so we were advised to go upstairs to the bar and have a drink. Easier said than done but we finally managed to find a few seats and have a drink.
Our table was ready probably about 30 mins later and service was prompt. The food was "tapas with attitude". It was all delicious. My only problem was the noise. It meant talking to anyone but your neighbour difficult. But I'd go again just for the inventiveness of the food.

“Can be fun - but there are better places for better food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

Assuming most of the reviews on here are from tourists... SS has cool food ideas but the food is just OK. For the prices, there is much better food in NYC.

Prior to having brunch here, I would have given this place 4 stars. This is really more of a 3.5. Overall the food is decent, some interesting things on the menu. But it's OK, nothing amazing. The ambience is good, and can be 'fun'. Generally reservations are easy to make and you get seated promptly. The dinner is much better than the brunch. Don't go for the brunch.

The french soup dumplings are different, but very salty and heavy. The Spaghettini Carbonara was pretty good otherwise nothing really stood out. For dessert, the donuts are pretty damn good. The dessert shot that was had was really yummy. Loved the smores creme brulee.

For brunch, the banana pancakes were pretty good, and the lobster benedict. The taquitos were OK. The chicken and waffles are really nothing special.

They tell you to over order, suggesting 2-3 dishes per person. Depending on what you order, this can be really way too much food. We ordered 1.5 pp for dinner it was perfect. We ordered 2pp for brunch and it was too much. Especially if you order the more expensive items, count those as 2.

“Far exceeded our expectations!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

My daughters are huge fans of Chopped. In making our reservations, we had asked that Chris Santos stop by. When we arrived the receptionist noted that he was not there but would be pleased that we had dined there. Although Chris was not there, the chef de cuisine stopped by and introduced himself and our waitress was sensational. The food was the best we had ever had and truly memorable. We can't stop talking about our visit and can't wait to go back!
