First the good stuff:
This hotel is at a great location. Exit the hotel, walk for a few minutes and you are at the center of Times Square. And the rates we got for it were better compared to most others around. Rooms clean. Close to metro, the one at Times Square.
And here is the bad stuff:
Do not count on sleeping well at this hotel. Each time another room’s door closes, it is so noisy, you will be waken. If you sleep thru that, the sirens of cops or fire trucks will keep you awake, though that may not be the hotel’s fault. It must be close to a cop or fire truck center! The hallways and some rooms are way to hot, something wrong with the air conditioning or they must have turned up the heater to MAX!
Front desk staff is not helpful and if you need any help in your room to fix something, chances are no one will come as promised.
Breakfast pretty bad, the worst coffee ever. I suggest going to the Marriott close by, awesome breakfast buffet but $22 per person.
If I go to NY again, I will try to find another hotel and would only stay at this one if I had to, but not likely!

We booked Best Western President on the recommendation of a family member, they had stayed here about 2 years ago. I read a number of reviews, that were negative, so was concerned. My husband & I had just had a lovely 23 day cruise which ended in New York. We stayed here Nov 17 - 20, 2005. We arrived @ the hotel, & we were very happy with the service right from the start, the door man helping us with all our baggage out of the taxi, to the desk staff. Very friendly, & helpful. We arrived about 11:00am, of course the room was not ready. They offered to look after baggage, so we could start our sight seeing. We came back about 1:30 & room was ready. We had a junior suite, so was very spacious, on the 5th floor. Read about the elevators being slow so took other recommendations to get room on lower levels, so we could use stairs if necessary. Everything was very clean. We had the same problem with warm rooms, as other comments, but was able to get heat turned off, window opened. We had enough hot water. The location was fantastic. We found a reasonable place for breakfast on 9th Ave between 48th & 49th Street, close to the hotel, that was clean & fast, & tasty. Restaurant row was close to have great dinners. New York even treated us to cool but great sunny weather. We would recommend this hotel, & would return if we ever get a chance to come back.

After reading the reviews on this hotel I have to admit I wasn't sure what to actually expect. However, it was the best priced hotel I could find in Times Square so decided to go with it.

I was pleasantly surprised :) the room was clean, adaquately sized and the bathroom was spotless. OK, the air-conditioning wasn't working properly and the room was definately on the 'warm' side - but considering it was November that was a bonus (not sure if i'd risk a summer stay though). The shower was great - just what is needed after a heavy day sight-seeing....and above all the location was absolutely fantastic. We were a 5 minute walk from the heart of time square - and 10-15 mins at most from central park and macys.

Whilst the staff weren't overly friendly they were effecient. We didn't use the bar or restaurants so i can't really comment on these.

I would definately recommend this hotel - and i would definately stay here again (albeit if it was summer i'd check the air-conditioning first).

I was dubious about staying here as i had read some bad reviews. this hotel had came recommended by family. We spent 6 nights here. the first night on the 4th floor was very noisy and we asked to be moved to a quieter room. They moved us to the 14th floor. the room was not large but very warm and comfortable. we had a very memorable and enjoyable time in this hotel and the location was excellent. i would definitely stay here again.
