“Balcony overlooking Times Square”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2011

We stayed for the week before christmas and had a Queen room at the front with a balcony overlooking Times Square. The hotel was clean, contempary and there were always staff on hand to help.
The room was clean, spacious, modern - very comfy bed, and had a large balcony with furniture over looking the M and M's sign. Amazing!
The location is perfect and although you could hear some street noise - I don't see how you could expect anything else in a Times Square location - if you have 'done New York' you will be too tired to let it keep you awake.
I will be recommending this hotel to my friends and would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony on the front of the hotel.

To start with positives – staying on 14th floor we didn't have problems with noise. Location is just great. If you have little time, I would recommend this hotel. Wifi worked perfectly.
Now... rooms are indeed very small and hot. King sized bed was very narrow. Finding the hotel on the street is quite easy - just look for the only dark spot :). Male concierge was no help at all. On our first evening we went to him to ask what we can do at that time, hoping he could recommend a restaurant or something like that. He said: you're in the centre of New York, you can do anything... On one hand he was probably right, on the other - not the answer I would expect in a four star hotel.
We also had a problem with the airport shuttle we had booked in a hotel. Concierge (female one) advised us to take a shuttle that leaves 3,5 hour prior to our flight (from JFK). If went straight to the airport, that might have been OK, but we had to pick up people from other hotels (and they were late), so we ended up driving through our street 50 minutes after we left it. Traffic is obviously not a driver's fault, but when we got to the airport he started to drop off people from the last terminal (our's was first), which costed us another 10 minutes. After all we got to the terminal 1 hour 30 minutes before departure (to Europe) and almost missed our flight. The driver claimed that concierge advised us wrong, that we left too late because this trip could also take 3 hours.

To begin, hotel from the outside is not well labelled at all, and what kind of hotel doesn't have automatic doors? Anyways, room on the 4th floor was small and noisy. Door did not fit the frame, therefore, there was a gap when the door was closed. Had to walk past laundry carts and a recycle /garbage cart in the hallway. Hallways are poorly lit with strange wallpaper.
Bathroom was incredibly small, and the shelf above the sink was slanted down, so the free "amenities" kept sliding off. Also be careful when brushing teeth, it's easy to hit your head on that useless shelf.

The presidential statue lamp didn't work, nor was the clock set to the right time... And there was no way to set the clock. How can housekeeping not notice that the clock is completely the wrong time? Doesn't make sense.

TV gives off an eerie glow when it's turned off, it's actually pretty bright at night.

The elevators are very small, can maybe fit 3 people with luggage.

No free breakfast, even for diamond members.

The hotel conceirge quoted us $55 dollars for a shuttle to Newark airport ( for 2 people). We walked over to the Doubletree hotel 2 blocks away, and took the shuttle from there for $40 total ( tax, tip, and toll included). Way better deal.

Room was incredibly noisy from hallway and street noise all night. LUCKILY, this was a free night from a promotion earlier in the year, would have been very disappointed if we had to pay for it.

Don't do it...try the Doubletree Times Square, you will notice the difference the minute you walk up to the hotel.

My wife and I stayed here a few days before Christmas for four nights. We are in our late 20's and this was just enough for us. We have stayed in four-five star hotels before and I would say this hotel rates about a 3. We had a couple minor issues that we more or less bit the bullett on and just went with it due to the fact it's NYC and we got a great deal. Going into our trip I had read some horror stories and been a little nervous before getting there but was relieved when we saw the room. The location could not have been any better. Literally 2min walking to the heart of times square and subway stops within a couple blocks to anywhere. It was 15 degrees with the windchill and we were happy the entire time. The lobby staff were receptive to our needs as best they could and were very friendly most of the time. The only issues we had were #1 the thermostat in the room seemed to blow hot air constantly....I quickly figured out setting the thermostat to ON and turning it on 70 would keep the room a little cool at night but the auto function was wayyyyyyyy worse....set it to on and 70. #2 we ended up being on the second floor and I read about the noise close to street level so we downloaded white noise apps on our phones and ran one through the iPhone docking station(turn it on airplane mode or it'll pop off and on) and sat the other on the other side of the bed and used earplugs at night. In four nights we never we're woken up by a car horn or sirens. #3 if your going for the free wi-fi....go elsewhere or live in the lobby. Our room on the second floor managed 1-2 bars intermittently, if any at all, but towards the center of the building and the lobby we had full service. But you're here to take in NYC; not look at Facebook and keep up with the world right?lol. #4 our shower curtain in our stand up shower was too short by about half an inch so when we showered the tiny bathroom flooded due to the curtain passing over the ledge and water running off. I made a complaint and asked for a longer curtain and immediately the front desk staff notified housekeeping to come down via walkie talkie. When we came back I could tell they switched the curtain but it was the same as before. So we took the metal basket in the bathroom and sat it on the ledge at the back of shower for the magnet in the curtain to stick to....rolled a towel up and sat it on the middle of the ledge and that kept the curtain from passing over the ledge. Honestly these were very minor problems that were manageable like i said. If you expect a 4-5 star at the price you're paying.....wake up Alice. If you're wanting to stay some where at a price that real people can afford with just enough ammenities... then stay here and experience NYC. I was was very happy with our stay. If this were any other city I would have been slightly aggrevated with our problems but this is NYC, look at the prices of the hotels surrounding this and realize you can sacrifice a little and gain a lot. Location was excellent, people friendly, and a great price. My wife and I would def stay here again. Had an amazing trip and a good stay. Thank you best western.

Location is great and staff are helpful but some rooms are uncomfortably small. Be careful about booking and check that room is not described as standard. Bigger and cheaper rooms are available within 2 blocks.
6-11th December 2011

Room Tip: Ask for large room-perhaps even suite

I stay at a lot of Best Westerns and generally they are good bang for your buck, but they dropped the ball on this place big time. I selected this hotel because of the Best Western name. They even call it a Best Western Plus, wake up Best Western. I have stayed in Hostels better than this place. The positives is the room was a good size and it was just around the corner from Times Square. Thats it for positives. The bathroon was so small you could barely turn around in it. It was also so run down the bath tub looked like it had never been changed since the building was built, cigarette burns, mold, cracked. The door had such a gap in it when it was closed that someone could easily break into your room. The bed was uncomfortable, decor old and dated. I wish I had taken pictures. I was even concerned about bed bugs, thankfully there were NO bed bugs. Most of the staff was friendly however not very knowledgable and one female that worked at the desk was rude she seemed to be annoyed I was even there. I paid alot of money but thankfully I only stayed one night.
