“A change of scenery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2011

If you are tired of Times Square and the busy-ness of the city, but still want to make sure you have a decent hotel in Manhattan, this is a good candidate. Its almost a mile from the subway, so you have to be ready to walk or take taxis, but that is part of its charm. This hotel is on the east river, in an area that has been struggling to be redeveloped for a long time. Its on a roughly cobblestoned road, and surrounded by old warehouses. It does have the flavor of old New York- the one that used to be a seaport. And its only a few blocks from the South Street Seaport bustle. There are many good restaurants in the area.
The room was spacious by New York standards, and our room on the Peck Slip side was free of street noise because of the construction project. (I hear it will be a park.) The room was very clean. My only complaint was that when the fan came on it was so loud it woke me up repeatedly but without it the room would have been too warm.
Not much of a business center (one computer) but it had free wifi that was very good. Also a nice breakfast was included.
I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for the side away from the Brooklyn Bridge if you are a light sleeper.

This hotel was great! The staff were all exceedingly friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and up-to-date, and the decor throughout the facility was lovely. It was far removed from the grimy, dated image that I have of most affordable New York City hotels.

The Seaport area is also very pleasant, even though some renovations are taking place near the river.

Just ignore the "Terrible" ratings, and remember that the last one was in 2009. I strongly doubt that there are very many reasonably-priced(for New York, that is) hotels on Manhattan island that offer this level of quality.

We always look forward to returning to this great hotel. The front desk staff is outstanding. Tia, Douglas, Dion, Nick were friendly and helpful. The room was as usual, clean and neat. Housekeeping was attentive but not intrusive. Marlenin, in charge of that department, along with everyone else follows the high standards set by the manager, ZB. ZB pays close attention to all details of guest experience. We are planing our next trip already. Thank you, Seaport Inn staff

Room Tip: Have been in many rooms queen and king. All great.

We travel to NYC about once a month from North Carolina and Seaport Inn has become our only place to stay in the City! We have been staying here for a couple of years now and the location, staff and terrace rooms are fantastic! Suheidy Estevez has been at the front desk each time we visit and always remembers us by name, where we like to visit, my husband's favorite cookies and has a true heart for serving others. While I mention Suheidy by name, I have to say that every member of the staff at this quaint hotel is fantastic!!! The Seaport neighborhood is wonderful to walk around after working all day. There are great little restaurants, wine shop and activities going on. The Pier is nice for an early morning walk and/or Tai Chi. We look forward to our next visit... next week!

Room Tip: Terrace rooms are fantastic!

This is a nice hotel to stay, the rooms and bathrooms are clean and spacious, I even got a partial view of the water while I was laying in bed. The location is convenient as it is in walking distance to the seaport and many stores. Continental breakfast in also included un the price of the room which was great. I will return to this hotel whenever I am in New York again.

Room Tip: A corner room is best, its more spacious than the other rooms.

This was my first NewYork trip and I wanted to stay in the Manhattan. This was one of the affordable hotels (Under $250). As mentioned by other reviewers, it is little difficult to locate the hotel as 1) There are no BestWestern signboards 2) Area around the hotel is undergiong renovation. Due to renovation, entire sorrounding of the hotel looks run-down and you begin to doubt if you have made the right choice. There is no parking in front of the hotel, and hotel staff asks you to park in a nearby paid parking place ($20 per day). Once you enter the hotel, you see a small lobby packed with lot of tourist brochures, booklets, magazines. Folks at front desk are nice and friendly. As you cross the front desk towards the elevators, there is a small dining room / business center (it has a computer and a printer). This is where they serve breakfast. This entire area is very small.
My room was on third floor. the walk-way is well lit and you can hear sounds coming out from other rooms. When I entered my room, it had 2 queen beds, attached bathroom, 32'' TV (mine wasnt a flat screen), a small refrigerator, coffee maker and other accessories. There was a window in the room, but it was opening up in the backyard of some other buildings and that wasn't a pretty sight. TV had an interactive system which gave options for New movies, games, and mature movies on pay per view basis. Room size was good, and all these things still left enough space to walk around.

Breakfast was a standard continental affair with bread, corn flakes, waffle, egg, fruits, milk, coffee etc.
Now coming to the best part of the hotel. This hotel is located at a walking distance from Brooklyn bridge, Wall Street, Ground Zero and battery park (Statue of Liberty cruise). Nearest Subway station (Fulton Street) is also a short walk away although while coming back at around 2 AM, it was deserted and we saw few not so friendly people. Its better to take a cab if returning from Times Square / anywhere else after 12 in night. cab from Times Square charged me about $20 in night.

All in all, the hotel is an average one with an excellent location.
