“Great location & staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013 via mobile

Fantastic location and staff were all great. Rooms very clean and I will stay again. Only negative was the roof terrace had private party's but we still could go up there if we wanted. Location really was great for time square and Central Park.

We stayed at the hotel in June 2013 and as you walk into the lobby and saw the amazing fish tank! We checked in by a friendly receptionist which was fast and easy. As we were in New York City to get married, we were given a complimentary upgrade by the hotel. The room was nice and well maintained and clean however even for an upgrade slightly on the small side. However we spent most of our time out of the hotel in the city so we only only slept in the room. So overall I would say the room is adequate foe what it is used for.

The location of the hotel was its main selling point. It was 5 minutes walk from Central Park and 10 minutes from time square and there is a subway station outside of the hotel which was really handy for getting around. The concierge was helpful with any questions we had and were very reliable. We did not try the room service so cannot comment on this.

Overall the hotel was well worth it for a few nights in the city. Any longer and than a hotel with bigger rooms might be more comfortable.

the dream hotel is an affordable option in midtown, a few blocks stroll from central park or the theatre district. the lobby shouts 'this is a cool design hotel' with its pillar aquarium and faux buddhist sculpture. and maybe it is. the ava bar on the top floor definitely does its level best and the blue light effects in the room have a certain edge to them. but for me, although my stay there was comfortable enough, the slightly grimy state of the room just took away any semblance of sophistication. the hotel must have been picture perfect when it opened, but over the years the wear and tear are showing. and there is just no excuse for the abundance of black hairs (not mine) on the bathroom floor.

The service was not good at all.. starting from the check in the receptionist was very rude and she also took a deposit of more than $600 on my credit card without even telling me! every time we asked for something from guest service it took at least 20-30 minutes and we had to call to chase for everything! the hotel is not very clean (there were mice dung outside the windows... the corridor on our floor was quite dirty...) Good things: we had an early check in, the roof top bar is very nice if it doesn't rain and the food at the restaurant is quite good! the location is not too bad.. and the common areas are very nice

Room Tip: get an internal room so it's quiet and you can sleep

Nice location near Times Square, Central Park. Rooms are small. Would try suite next time. Staff friendly, penthouse bar great venue, restaurant on Broadway cool, service timely & professional. Travelled there to NY first time & did enjoy the experience. Thanks to all Staff at Dream. Enjoyed my birthday there all the way from Australia.

Many previous reviewers complained about the small size of the rooms. Apparently they're unfamiliar with Manhattan. Yes the rooms are smaller than you'd find in a Hampton Inn on the Interstate, but for a vintage building in an absolutely perfect location for sightseeing (right at 55th and Broadway; several subway lines are right there) it's an amazing value.
Our room was very clean with cool indirect soft lighting that made it fun. If you bring your car you'll be happy to know they have a deal with a parking garage on the next block to park your car for just $25 dollars a day. If you think that's high, the going rate for hotel parking in the Chicago loop has just risen to an average of $60 a day.
The only complaint I have was about the hotel concierge. Virtually every piece of information he gave us during our stay (what subway to take, museum hours etc.) was wrong. Do your own research on the Internet and you'll be fine.

We stayed at the Dream Hotel for one week to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It is a great hotel to visit everywhere from,Central Park is literally two blocks away and Times Square is just around the corner. Our room was spacious and cleaned everyday and the towels replaced. Unfortunately there were no tea or coffee making facility's in the room which I found very disappointing for a hotel of that quality. There is a bar on the top floor but you don't get any preferential treatment for being a guest there and as a result you can never get a table no matter what time you go as they are always reserved for corporate parties. The food is very expensive in the hotel I would recommend Fluffys for breakfast it is located just around the corner and very reasonably priced. Beware of the so called courtesy hotel car we were told it would take us to JFK Airport for the same price as a yellow cab $60 including a tip. When we arrived at the airport we were told the fare was $75 and he expected a good tip as he got us to the airport on time. I would recommend this hotel for its location
