“middle of the road experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

Got a decent price for last minute trip into the city. Attentive staff for check-in and out. The king room was a typical size for NYC. Bathroom more than adequate. Asked for a quiet room and got it, no concerns there, much to our relief after reading prior reviews on this website. We were not troubled by the affectation surrounding the lounge, or the blue lighting that we figured out how to disconnect by the end of our stay. The service at Sarafina was slow for breakfast, but the food go0d and it was Easter, after all. Would stay again for a great rate, but wouldn't say this place was one of our favorites.

I stayed for just 3 nights at the Dream, Manhattan. The lobby is beautiful and the staff are friendly. However, after getting to my room I started to feel disappointed. There is blue fluorescent lighting in the room - something that's meant to set it apart (I think). It just made the place feel cheap! On the upside, I guess I could see if the sheets had been changed before I arrived!

The bed was comfortable and I had no problems sleeping. The air conditioning unit is a little old and needs replacing. It did wake me a couple of times on the first night. Bathroom is spacious and well stocked. Something belonging to me fell behind this big clunky unit in the room. After pulling it out, the item was covered in dust! Definitely some housekeeping issues!

All in all, a good stay! I wouldn't stay here again, unless I got a very good rate!

First stop on our honeymoon and not the hotel to start.
Other then the location Dream doesn't have alot going for it and for the price there is alot better in the area which do a much better job and much more welcoming.

Pros:

Location

Cons:

• Rooms look like a cheap porn set with the gimmick blue light

•Staff none caring and unhelpful

•9 dollers for wifi in your room! But you can get free wifi in the lobby!?!

•Information in the room not clear and no price list in our room

•No gym onsite as suggested in room guide

Visited New York a few times before and this is by far an over priced and tragicly hip hotel for a better experience look else where.

Really nothing wrong with this hotel. It was very clean, the oranges a nice touch and we were on the 10th floor, but right by the elevators. Did not hear them at all, and really heard no noise outside our room. We didn't arrive until 9 pm and the parking garage steered us in the right direction to get the discount on parking. We had dinner at Seraphina's and it was excellent. The salmon was cooked to order -- I like it well done and it was, but not dried out. The beds were comfortable and nicely covered. The bathroom was on the smaller side, but for only one night it was fine. We had a drink in the downstair's bar. The upstairs one was full. Did go up there later in the night to see the view. It was amazing to see the lights of broadway. Reason I chose this hotel besides location, was the charm of the lighting, which proved to live up to expectation.

Room and bathroom were tiny and staff was rude. Do not let reputation fool you. I would never go back. The New York half marathon was held the weekend we stayed. Had I not taken an early walk, I would not have found out. Because of the route of the race, the hotel's parking lot would not have been able to get the car until noon... hours later than we needed. When I pointed this out, the staff was rude and did not care. Too many good hotels in NYC to ever return.

This hotel is really well placed being only minutes from Times Square and a plethora of eating and drinking establishments. The beds are really comfortable and the rooms are a decent size. The staff were very helpful with a public transport related query I had on half marathon day also. However there are a few drawbacks. We were made to feel very unwelcome by the doorman of the rooftop bar when we attempted to have a drink on our first night. We weren't allowed to sit down for some reason and were only permitted to drink at the bar where there was no room. We decided to leave at this point having decided his behaviour was just too bizarre to cope with. Also some of the guests at this hotel seem incapable of being quiet around the lift areas throughout the night so be prepared to be disturbed if your room is near a lift. However that aside, the hotel is quiet if you are on a floor like the 7th or 8th with hardly any noise from the street and none from the bars on the ground floor and rooftop.

I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Request a mid-floor room away from the lifts (elevators).

We were greeted by Michael who was really welcoming, smiley, friendly and helpful. Our room was much bigger than expected and so was the en suite bathroom with double shower! Fabulous! The bed was lovely, big and so comfortable, great to flop into after a long day walking around the city. There was a safe in the room where we could leave our valuables with piece of mind that they were secure. A well stocked mini bar, which we were warned not to pick up anything unless we were going to consume as it is touch sensitive and automatically adds onto the bill. The room was cleaned daily with lovely big oranges left on the pillows but we got a little confused with the tipping etiquette and think that was the reason the oranges ceased to be! One guide book said to leave a tip for the maid upon leaving the establishment, which we thought meant on the last day as we were checking out, but when we read another guide, it said to leave a tip daily! However, we read this too late and so left a large tip as we checked out. The views from the rooftop lounge are fabulous, especially Times Square at night. We got some great pics. There is a lift to all floors. The concierge was very friendly and helpful, advising us of the way to get to the Statue of Liberty and Central Park. On the day we checked out, we were able to leave our cases locked securely away in the lobby so that we could enjoy our last couple of hours, and the doorman also ordered a car to take us to the airport. Lovely car it was too and cheaper than the yellow cab we used, coming from the airport to the hotel, when we arrived! Overall, a fabulous stay, great location between Times Square and Central Park, will definitely stay here again and recommend to all.
