“Lovely staying”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

I came in this hotel for a businees trip I found it lovely! either good for a future romantic trip with my wife. To recommend the top roof Club and the Ed's chowder restaurant. Lincoln Center, MOMA museums and Central Park are two steps away. Perfectly located for who wants to escape the Times Square noises and needs to relax in a Cultural Area. I'll come back soon!

This hotel is directly across from Lincoln Center. In fact, It is the closest hotel to Lincoln Center. It is very busy all the time. The bed room was very well appointed. The shower was postage stamp size and had only 1/2 the shower area covered so water goes everywhere in the bathroom.
The bar is very busy also and the music is very loud. The employees at the bar, restaurant and entry are very pleasant . The doors to the street are open most of the time and there is a very cold breeze felt in the bar and looby. They charge $12.95 per day for the internet. There are no business programs available on the TV. We had no water for about 2 hours around noon than it was brown for a while.Saturday night there was a pulsating beat from the music from the bar all the way to the 11th floor until 1:00AM. This is a 2 star hotel in a 4 star location.

The Empire is a nice older hotel. We had no big complaints about our 5-night stay. And we'll stay there again. Every employee we encountered was friendly and courteous.Empire is across the street from Lincoln Center; so expect to pay for a premium location. If you're visiting NYC for the Theaters or the Museums, the Empire offers a great location for you. If you're reasonably fit, you can walk comfortably to a large number of the best-known tourist and theater destinations in Manhattan (including Central Park).

Overall, our accommodations were fine. Our Room was a standard room with 2 double beds for our party of 3 persons. Readers should be aware of some features of the Rooms that may not suit everyone's preferences. LOOK at the PHOTOS posted by other reviewers to see a few questionable things. Empire is an older hotel. Although it's been renovated, they didn't make the rooms any bigger. Rooms are SMALL, and Bathrooms are SMALLER. (You can't sit on the toilet or use the Sink unless you first close the door behind you.) The door had been removed from the Shower stall; requiring care to avoid spraying the room. If you're traveling with lots of clothes, beware. There's almost no place to set a suitcase. There's no closet; there is a 3-foot gap in the wall with a curtain. Linen service was spotty; we had to call to ask for towels and a bathmat 4 nights out of 5, because the housekeepers just couldn't get it right. The first day we checked in, we found they had left no Washcloths or hand towels; the next day they left no bathmat; and so on. There's no excuse for such disorganization. Beds were very comfortable; but had just one sheet and a duvet. NO bottom sheet. That's a new one on me. The Mini-fridge was crammed full of Beverages the hotel would like you to buy. So full that we had to remove a few bottles of Beer to insert our own bottle of water. We thought that was rather inconsiderate.

JUST SO YOU KNOW: The heating/cooling was an old noisy unit; but kept us reasonably comfortable. Our room had a locking Safe for valuables; NO chest of drawers NO microwave, NO coffeemaker, NO iron or board. Lighting in our room was inadequate reading. If you're a reader, bring a book light. Never turned the TV on; so don't know if it worked. Empire has 4 Guest Elevators that worked promptly and quietly.

Many reviewers commented favorably about the Bar at the Empire. We didn't go there. But with dozens of Bars within walking distance; who cares if your hotel has great bar or not? That's not what I want to be paying for. (If you want to hang around in a Hotel Bar, I suppose the Empire would suit you well.)

In summary, we found the Empire to be a nice hotel in a great location, with only a few glitches typical of an older hotel. We will stay here again without hesitation.
Just be sure you know what to expect, so you won't be disappointed.
That's what TripAdvisor is for.

Room Tip: If you want a VIEW of Broadway or something else interesting out your window, be sure to ask for it...

This hotel is a very comfortable stay with unique and welcoming rooms. The only issue I had was that wi-if is not free except in the lobby which was too cold to be comfortable in. Also, the computers in the business center required payment. Too much pay for service!

I stayed here in November for a business trip, and overall, the price and location are excellent. It really can't be beat if most of your meetings are in the west side area. We hosted several international speakers for a nearby conference, and the staff was extremely helpful with coordinating their arrivals, expenditures, etc. Dynia is among the top ten best hotel receptionists, ever.

I booked this hotel based on other positive reviews. I can't speak for all of the rooms but the night we spent in 1130 was disappointing. (We had previously stayed at Parker Meridian. The experience was night and day but the price we paid was comparable).

On the day we arrived at the Empire they had a problem with turning the heat off and the 11th floor was a sauna.

The room was really exceptionally small to contain a king sized bed. It was very cramped to move around. It made a simple activity like getting dressed feel challenging.

The bathroom was like a very small powder room (not big enough for a bath tub just a shower). In front of the sink there was a load bearing pillar so that you couldn't actually stand in front of the sink but had to stand at the corner of the toilet (which closely abutted the sink). There was no ledge to put toiletries or a hair brush on so you have to close the lid of the toilet and use that to get ready. It just felt awkward.

The noise in that room was the thing that I found most challenging. At night you could see the light around the door and that gap let in every noise from the elevator bank facing the room.
Although we were on the 11th floor I could still hear the street / construction noise.

Other rooms in the hotel may be OK (it was clean and the bed / bedding was OK etc.) but I couldn't recommend this hotel based on our experience.

Room Tip: Do not book room 1130. There is a gap all around the door and you will hear the elevator (which is o...

Fun hotel in a great location and, for NYC, a great price. Directly in front of Lincoln Center and only a block from Central Park, the location is ideal if you like the west side. The hotel interior is very trendy and the lobby/bar a little noisy but it's all attractive and lively. The rooms are decent size for NY and the gym is small but adequate. The attached restaurant is very good--have the mussels and french fries.
