“Great place...centrally located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

Stayed here for the weekend with my son on an outing. We'd go back. I have to complement the front desk. My 10 yr old son mentioned that he wanted to use the pool and she gave us a nice (small) room on the top floor near the pool. The rooms are tiny but that's NYC. Want a big room, go the Four Seasons and spend 1000 a night or more. Restaurant we discovered late on the second floor is beautiful. We had breakfast there and it was delicious and beautifully appointed. I love being a few blocks from the park and proximity to everything....but thats most hotels in NYC. Anyway....I' stay here again. Note: there is a very nice bar outside on the roof...it's worth checking out BUT the pool is slightly larger than the average bathtub. Don't go here for the pool

Room Tip: Don't want street noise..ask for a room higher

Great location by the Lincoln Center. Starbucks nearby and the Chowder House next door is excellent. The room was except for a bit musty and damp floor next to the cooler but it was in the middle of a heat wave. Beds and linens are lovely. I'd stay here again. Great deal on travel zoo. Easy subway access.

This smart retro building on the upper west side is in a handy location if you want to hang-out within easy reach of the shops and museums of uptown. And it's a nifty five minute walk to Central Park when you need to escape the traffic, or join the city’s army of exercise fanatics. Rooms are smart and tasteful, with enough idiosyncratic design to make you feel you're in a smart chic boutique, despite the hotel's significant size.

I was upgraded to a large room on the 3rd floor which had space to work comfortably and even do a bit of yoga without knocking myself out. And the free wifi was a relief having been outrageously charged by hotels too often recently. Annoyingly you have to keep putting the passcode in when using a mobile device, which seemed pointless and after three days I still couldn’t work out how to turn off the shower without it dripping. But facilities were generally good and the bed blissful: huge, not too soft and the requisite great linens needed for a sound hotel experience.

Highlights are the tasteful design, efficient service and excellent roof top bar - although frankly I've walked through puddles bigger than advertised pool, but it’s largely irrelevant to the fashionable cocktail-swilling crowd the bar attracts. And the NY skyline views are far more compelling. Overall I found this a good uptown option providing a very pleasant and pretty much hassle- free stay.

Room Tip: My room on the west side on the third floor was noisy, but ear plugs are always a good idea in a NY...

The rooms are quite small, but spotless and comfortable. We were only there to sleep, so cleanliness and comfort were more important! The Empire is in a great area, right beside Central Park and the new Century 21 store. You can very easily walk to Times Square or 5th Avenue from here. The rooftop bar is a lovely spot too, great views and atmosphere

Very promising and luxurous entrance. Hotel has a great location, couldn't be better as it was just a few blocj away from Times Square (walking distance)

Though, downside of the hotel is the very loud and old central airconditioning.
This installation is in need of a facelift. It's too loud and the installations in the rooms are due to be renewed urgently. Rooms are a bit dissappointing when compared to the entrance and the reception desk of the hotel, no closet space and very small rooms and bathrooms.
For a 5 stars hotel the daily service in terms of new towels etc can be improved.

I was very excited to stay at this hotel but left feeling a little disappointed. Our room was nice but very small and there wasn't a lot of space to store our luggage. The bathroom was extremely small which made getting ready difficult. The beds are very firm and even though we booked 6 months in advance, we were given a room with two beds which we did not need. The rooftop pool is TINY and freezing cold. It was a very hot day but I could not swim as it was way too cold! The lifts are frustrating- they take forever! The staff were friendly and we did enjoy having gossip girl cocktails in the cosy lounge but I think there are better hotels in NYC.

I travelled with my teenage daughter on our 1st trip to New York. Warm, friendly welcome from Maggie on check in. Room small (not a concern as only used to sleep in), spotlessly clean with beautiful decor. Comfy bed and pillows very welcome after a long days sightseeing. Only downside was that AC was noisy but not a major problem as it was needed! Concierge, doormen and house keeping staff all friendly, helpful& polite. Roof top terrace beautiful. Breakfast in Ed's Chowder House was amazing! Highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to return. Claire Gibson, Northern Ireland.
