Imagine this: it's Thanksgiving evening and after a long journey, you reach the hostel where you have reserved a room for 3 days, after paying online 10% of the value of the room. And then, you are informed by a not-so-polite front desk clerk that there is nothing available, because "the site that we work with, overbooked us for the holidays and that's not our problem. Try to find somewhere else to stay". And in the most physical way, she also told me that this had happened with another client of theirs, a couple of hours before me. I have been traveling for 25 years now and it's the first time I had such an experience (and I hope the last). I can't comment on the rooms because obviously I did not see them. But I had a really hard time trying to find a place to pass my night, carrying my luggage around Upper West New York. The worst hotel experience I had so far.

Blame the websites not us. They overbook us we have no control over this. We tell them to stop selling but they still continue.

Thank You

I got bed bugs at this hostel, need I say more? I would turn down a free trip to New York and stay home before I would stay in this hostel again.

I safely say this is the worst place I have ever stood in, rude staff who laughed in our face when we voiced our concern that the hostel was nothing like we were lead to believe, this was in between speaking their own language and laughing among themselves.
The Hostel itself looked like some sort of dingy dive with tacky Halloween-type decorations thrown on the walls. When we arrived at our room after walking down stairs and through back streets to get to the building where we were staying we entered into the smallest room possible with the shabbiest bunk beds and linen (this is of what linen there was available). The light switch consisted of a chain that dangled from the centre of the ceiling, and a wardrobe that was merely a hole in the wall. And that was where we were meant to spend our 7nights.
When we asked where we could get towels we were told with a grunt to go down stairs and get them. So that night we turned around and began to walk the streets of New York looking for some where to stay after having already had a 12 hour journey from the UK. We couldn't bring ourselves to spend even one night. Very disappointed after spending all that money for nothing and that’s the way we were treated as paying customers.

Well I guess we can't satisfy everybody. If you wanted a 5 star hotel you shouldn't of booked a hostel.

We paid $100 for a double private room. Whilst the room was clean and conveniently next to the bathroom, there was only a three quarter size bed in there - not a proper double size! We thought $100 was a bit too expensive for what we got but as my first experience of a hostel, I was pleasantly surprised at how clean it was. The facilities seemed pretty good. But the girls on reception were a bit [--], didn't explain anything properly and had attitudes!!

This is in no way a bad review, but I would just like to say that I stayed in New York for one night, in no way would I stay at this hostel for more than 2 nights!

Wow you think $100 is too expensive for a private double bed room in NYC then you chose the wrong city to visit. The beds are a standard full/double mattress nothing more nothing less. Maybe its different in the UK.

Thank You

The hostel is in a good position but the lack of facilities in the room is a pain i.e. no sink, chair, table etc the price is reasonable but rooms are very, very basic.
Our trip was spoilt by the receptionist having a go because I dropped the key on the counter on the way out(I had just ran the marathon) so was quite stiff, then he said he thought all English were rude.
When we arrived there were arguments going on with customers trying to get thier money back as they weren't happy with the room.
In the end we stayed 3 days out of the 5 days we had booked, then moved to a nearby hotel as we couldn't stand it any more.
