“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

Found Basso56 on tripadvisor and decided to visit after seeing such rave reviews, and I was not disapointed, the service from start to finish was amazing, very friendly and helpful but not too much!
The food was simply the best, fresh tasty and piping hot.
Would most definately return in the future

“Can't say enough good things about this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

Basso56 is my family's favorite place to eat in NYC! The food is delicious and the staff is amazing! We found Basso56 on Trip Advisor a few years ago and have been eating here every time we make it to The City. It is always consistent and that is what keeps us coming back. In fact, we plan to eat there again this week before we leave! You cannot miss with this restaurant.

“Great Value, Tasty Food But Plates A Little Too Busy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

We very much enjoyed our meal at Basso56, however, we were unfortunately forced to find refuge in an Indian restaurant earlier in the day given the constant downpour and, as a result, were ill-prepared for the large, and what could by considered `busy', plates of food. That's not to say that the food was not well presented and/ or tasty however there was simply too much going on. For example, I had the Scallops for a starter and rather than coming on a delicate bed of some form of purée, as served in the UK, the Scallops came on a large bed of wild mushrooms that virtually covered the entire plate along with orange segments and salad garnish. Similarly, my Filet Mignon was a great cut of meat however it came with a large portion of caramelised onions, potato purée with potato chips tucked in the top, vegetables, a white truffle sauce and garnish. My daughter's chicken similarly was a mountain of food and my wife's Lamb Ragu was equally a challenge. We really don't like leaving food and I have to say that sometimes `less is more' but please don't think for any moment we didn't enjoy our meal, it's simply that we might have enjoyed it more had the portions been smaller and the plates less busy - but this might not be to everyone's liking. Eating an Indian meal half-way throughout the day clearly didn't help so my advice would be save yourself for this restaurant and you won't be disappointed if you are hungry. BTW, the restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere, is a good size and the service was second to none. Would definitely return however would ensure we had not eaten before that day - especially given the portion sizes do not detract from the quality. From a point of value-for-money you cannot complain and, in this regard, Basso56 beats some of the other restaurants we visited in NY within Trip Advisor's top-20 list.

“Great value for NYC!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

This was our second visit to this restaurant as we were so impressed with the first! The food was wonderful, yet again, and the service was very efficient and pleasant. The wine list is excellent and great value. Reservations are a must!

“Not quite on the same par with other New York restaurants we've been to...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

The atmosphere is basement-like, there was a line for the rest rooms which are in plain view of the dining area, and the service attentive but not genuinely friendly. And we had to wait for fifteen minutes despite having a reservation.

The lamb entrée and seared scallops were very good to excellent. But just up the street is Robert, with a stunning view of Central Park and upper Broadway as well as Columbus Circle and their service is better, while the lamb is also as good or better in my opinion.
