“Great food. And I hear they have chocolates?”
It was an odd choice for a dinner out since nobody in our party of 8 was really fond of chocolate. I expected so-so, perfunctory food amidst some chocolate cheesiness and for a first time in a long while my expectations were pulverized. In a good way. There is a lot of chocolate about, obviously, in and on just about everything, but it is not at all cheesy. And there is the second level seating where one can escape the chocolate smell and displays altogether. NB: we wouldn't be seated till the whole party was there, which happened about 15 min after the reservation time. NB2: make a reservation, the place is usually packed. The menu is not very extensive but has ample vegetarian and carnivorous options. Beer selection is abysmal (I guess you can't indeed have everything), wine list is small, but quite surprisingly the mixed drinks are among the most elaborate for a restaurant (one, Berry Lovely, showed up on its own tray with extra fruit and other condiments) - price to the size/design/taste is better than any mixed drinks we tried around Manhattan. The service was mostly efficient, although refilling water glass for one very thirsty member of our party (it was 99 F outside) could have been done a bit faster. Or he could drink slower, also true. Food arrived quickly, and everything was very much enjoyed. Presentation, taste, portion size - all around great value. Between the 8 of us we tried just about everything on the menu and there wasn't a single miss. I didn't feel too bad about Chocolate Stout being the only chocolate thing we ordered as people at other tables were gorging themselves on wings, pulled pork and chicken without a trace of chocolate or shame. So to sum up - if you like chocolate it's a place you can't miss. But even if you don't this place is on par with or better than any restaurant on the island in its price range.
