Description: Chef Michael Psilakis and partner Donatella Arpaia have moved their rustic Greek gem, Kefi, to a larger space at 505 Columbus Avenue. The new, 200-seat interior evokes the feeling of a palatial Greek hideaway broken up into several smaller dining rooms to keep Kefi’s intimate appeal. The menu of favorites straight from Psilakis’ childhood will remain the same with some new additions. Signature dishes like Baccala, crispy-fried cod with garlic potatoes and tomato, Grilled Octopus with bean salad, and Hilopita, baked pasta with rabbit ragout and béchamel are still on offer. Additions include Grilled Sardines with chopped “Greek Salad” and garlic sauce, Macaronia Spestofai, tubular pasta with Greek sausage, peppers, onions, tomato and feta and an entirely new section of Greek Sandwiches featuring house-made sausages and pork and lamb gyro.

“ Very tasty selection at reasonable prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

Despite the miniature tables and the squeezing of patrons into these narrow spaces, the restaurant is very popular and rightly so. The menu has a great selection and variety- unfortunately they were out of the grilled octopus when we were there- this is apparently one of their most popular dishes. We loved the Kefi salad (but why don't they offer it with bread??? When we asked, they brought us some cold pita and charged us extra for it - who ever heard of a Greek restaurant where no bread is served??)
My husband then had the chicken souvlaki which came with the Kefi salad on the side!!! Our server should have informed us of that when we were ordering, as we would have ordered a different appetizer!! She never did, unfortunately... My spinach-rice with tomatoes, feta and shrimp was delicious. In sum, we really liked the food, but the service could use some improvement...

“Won't got back anytime soon”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014 credit card Amex Card Member Review

This place has really gone down hill since re-opening. We used to be frequent customers but recently took friends here and it was absolutely horrible. Had a reservation but were seated 40 minutes late. The hostess nor the management apologized once. There were about 5-6 items on the menu that they ran out of before we could even order. I had a salad with shrimp and the shrimp were literally raw on the inside. Disgusting. When I complained to our waiter he was very defensive and rude. I was shocked at both the service and the food here on our latest visit so I will not be going back any time soon.

“Tasty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2014

Have known about this restaurant for many years but never went. We finally decided to go and it lived up to our expectations. Each dish was more scrumptious than the last. Can't go wrong. A bit too noisy on the weekends.

“Unexpected delight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

Wonderful Meditteranean inspired restaurant. Every dish we ordered was delicious. Portions were right size...not overwhelming, but definitely filling. Prices were very reasonable, despite being in the middle of the upper west side of NYC. A very large restaurant with a vibrant atmosphere, but cozy enough that you can talk at the table and hear each other. A great big area to saunter up to and eat at a pretty marble counter, if your by yourself or just a couple. Will definitely return.
