“Not everyone's cup of tea...but heavy on nostalgia”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

I stayed at The Bowery for 2 nights in late Alrpil 2015 while on business in Wall St. It is a quirky...cranky..venue that has elevated hip and cool with a throwback to the era of the 1900's; visually it creaks of brocade furniture, flock velvet curtains and second rate oak pannelling. All this is contrived to give the impression of a world gone by.
So far so good but it is also a hotel of huge compromises. Bedrooms are sparsely appointed; it has no restaurant; the phones are ideosyncratic; and the public areas lack a quiet corner. more positively, the beds are very comfortable and rooms facing the rear garden are quiet.
If you are on vacation, it will work fine for you. If you are business, you will miss all those hot and cold efficient facilities that make life easy when time has a price.
Location is a matter of taste; its a good 20 minutes by cab to Wall Street and about the same to central park. Convenient for Chinatown and good night life.
But ...it is a hotel caught in both a time warp and a twilight zone. If you want quirky, chose the Bowery. If you want a good location, efficient services and a hotel that does not shout at your senses, there are plenty of better options in NY.

The Bowery is a top tier hotel with great views from all rooms (although it can be pretty noisy with sirens coming up from the street 24/7 but you are in NYC after all.) If you have a north facing room, you have a clear view of the Empire State Building.

Rooms and bathrooms are bright and spacious, but be prepared for the hallways to be dark and not very wide. (I over heard another guest say "Do I need a flashlight through this whole hotel?") Beds are very comfortable, variety of pillows and a teddybear on every bed dressed like the porters. Wifi is available and pretty good connectivity.

The lounge looks lovely with worn sofa's and wooden furniture - but not all the chairs are comfortable. Sit out the back when the weather is nice overlooking the little cemetery for really comfortable hanging out.

Room service comes from Gemma restaurant downstairs - the menu is extensive and it is really great food. Probably some of the best I have had.

There is a great little cocktail bar downstairs too.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much bother for them. Anything you need they will arrange for you.

This is the second time I have stayed at The Bowery and despite the negative sounding comments I just bring them up as the reality check in a really exceptional hotel. It is an expensive hotel and I know other hotels on the same level that travellers may stay at first before this one might be surprised at these details. I will happily stay here again and would recommend for others.

The winner for me is the location - the restaurants (Katz Deli, Hencho en Dumbo, The Butchers Daughter, Tacombi, Gemma, Erin McKenna's Bakery, Pickle Guys, Great Jones Cafe, Saxon & Parole...), shopping (both boutiques and large brands) and the proximity to Wholefoods and the 2nd Av subway station make it great for me.

Room Tip: Ask for a north facing room to go to bed watching the lights on the Empire State Building.

I really enjoyed my stay here. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

so...my uncle invited my wife and I to NY for his 50th birthday party. All of the out of towners stayed here. The keys were cool because they were electronic.

The Bowery hotel is beautifully decorated in a bohemian meets Gotham city style. The staff are incredibly helpful , well trained and service orientated. Bathrooms are well appointed and larger than expected in New York City. I cannot imagine that it would not charm the most seasoned traveller in its category.

Room Tip: Room 512 is quiet with a spacious bathroom and great shower.

Great location and wonderful lobby bar and restaurant. The rooms are very well appointed with charming detail in both decor and utility including plenty of towels, quality bathroom products, robes and excellent showers and water pressure. This unique "old feel" hotel has maintained its beautiful period architecture and design while providing all of the best in modern necessities.

this hotel for ny is very good, nice staff, lots of nice people hanging out by night and lots of fun.
the rooms are a bit small, but you know it's ny, but the views are amazing, overall a bit too much expensive, really good drinks at the bar and good food at gemmas. it's a plus recommendation this hotel but do not expect a classic place, this is a hipster place.

I live in NYC and never know where to send guests, but I do now. As part of our wedding anniversary, my wife and I took a staycation and had a great experience with this hotel. The service level was far superior to what I expected in all aspects. Everyone was extremely friendly and every time we requested something, it was delivered in very short order, including a bottle of champagne sent up on the house. We stayed in a Deluxe King room and would recommend spending the extra hundred bucks or so for the additional 100 square feet. The bathroom had a tub so deep you could scuba dive in it and the shower had some of the hottest water I ever experienced; a novelty for New Yorkers. The King sized bed was comfortable, but not to the level of some other luxury hotels. The room itself had great amenities and two separate seating areas, including a table for breakfast. I will say that the lack of storage space for clothes was odd, but not an issue overall for us, but could be if you are staying here for a week. The best part was the stuffed leather rhinoceros in the corner; you’ll see. We did not eat at the hotel, preferring to go a block south to Bar Primi and across the street to The Wren and an avenue over to Lafayette. A good spa is around the corner as well. Overall, we had a great stay, and even better, a place to send our friends when they come visit and not have to worry that they will be disappointed in any way.
