“Enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

This is a different type of hotel. It is small and has the feeling of "Old New York City". The rooms are decorated in the 1920's but everything is brand new. The bedroom was pretty, clean and nicely decorated but on the smaller side. It had a very comfortable bed and nice amenities.

The lobby bar is very happening in the evening. Despite being crowded, t the staff managed to find us a place to sit. I would definitely recommend The Bowery Hotel. We enjoyed it because it was different than the usual hotel. Fun location too!!

I've enjoyed all my stays at The Bowery. It's tastefully done, very sophisticated but not overly stuffy. I like staying downtown and like the location. Easy spot to get taxi if going uptown. A winner but expensive.

Since my daughter recently moved from the upper to the lower east side of NYC, on my annual spring visit I wanted to stay in a hotel close by....was I lucky that I picked the Bowery Hotel. This charming boutique hotel is exceptional in service, decor and food. The location is perfect to walk to shopping and numerous bars and restaurants in the area.

I must admit the “Bowery Busy Bar” was really hopping for a senior... but boy did my daughter and friends loved every minute!

The room was so comfortable, with a floor to ceiling large window and a beautiful marble bathroom that had a large walk in rain shower. The room service was impeccable and my morning latte arrived within minutes, piping hot!
It totally exceeded all my expectations...I’m now sold on the Bowery Hotel on the lower east side of NY! I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

The Bowery Hotel is a charming, warm "old world feel" hotel with modern comfort. The rooms are tastefully appointed and quite spacious by NYC standards . Although the lobby is dark and cosy, the rooms are remarkably bright. The beds are very comfortable with luxurious linens. The bathroom shower has an amazing rainhead and shower. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms,(806) but had plenty of room to sit with our coffees in the mornings at a table by the sunny window. It was extremely quiet in our room, although the lobby and restaurant bar can get quite animated at night. The hotel is located in one of the best areas of Manhattan for walking to Soho, the Villages, Nolita and the Lower East side. Gemma the hotel restaurant has a great patio for dinner or lunches on nice days. The no reservation policy of the hotel restaurant does not apply to guests, so it is well worth booking a meal there during your stay. Overall is is a very pleasant hotel to stay in. Highly recommended!

If you like the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, this is the hotel for you. I think the same people own it. I stayed here in Nov. while visiting my son in college. We hung out in the bar/lobby almost every night and his friends would come by and visit. So, yes, it can get loud and people do smoke in the open courtyard in the back. But I never heard any noise in my room and definitely did not smell smoke. The rooms are very cool. Luxurious linens and toiletries. Beautiful, large tub with a view of Manhattan out the window. This view was in my room and the bathroom! Just gorgeous. This is the place to stay if you want cool/hip New York.

The Bowery Hotel location is convenient to NYU and Greenwich Village. There are many new restaurants in this gentrifying area. The front desk, porters and housekeeping staff are very attentive.
Reclaimed furniture/rugs dark paint, small elevators give the hotel an aged-ambiance which was appealing to some in our group, others found it to be tired looking even though the Bowery was built just 6 years ago.
The area Its becoming trendy-which leads to the downside of staying at this hotel:
Each evening (we stayed for 4 nights) the hotel lobby was packed with non-hotel visitors. There was no room for hotel guests. As the evening progressed, the crowds got rowdier. Although smoking is not allowed in the lobby,it reeked of smoke because the attached open air courtyard and covered entrance to the lobby was a magnet for smokers and their smoke wafted through the main floor. On Friday and Saturday night, it was hard to sleep. The noise from the street until 3:00 am with honking taxis and inebriated revelers made it difficult to sleep-and we were on a high floor.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher corner room...for a good view of Empire State Building

Just might be my new favorite hotel in New York!

I stayed 3 nights at the Bowery in March 2013 and 4 nights in January 2013 and had a great time there on both visits.

ROOMS:

I had a Bowery Suite both trips. The suites are L shaped, so the sleeping area is distinct from the work area even though they aren't actually separate rooms. The suites are spacious and thoughtfully laid out: I appreciated that they were well configured and had distinct living/working/dining/sleeping areas. The decor is cozy and full of character, with lots of charming details like a teddy bear wearing the staff uniform on the bed. I loved the floor to ceiling windows. Would have liked a tub, though, which neither room had.

FOOD:

The restaurant, Gemma, is a favorite of some of my NY fashion industry friends. It's definitely a cool place. The food is good but nothing special. There are lots of better restaurants only blocks away, though, so I wouldn't recommend eating at the hotel too much.

BAR:

I love the lobby lounge. Very chic, very cool, great place to meet friends for drinks. In the winter it's especially lovely to sit around the (very convincing) fake fireplace. Saw a few well known models and socialites both times I hung out there.

SERVICE:

Staff were uniformly pleasant to deal with and the housekeeping crew does a great job of keeping the rooms looking fresh. Did have some problems with room service staff forgetting elements of meals I'd ordered, but they were always quick to send someone up with the missing items.

LOCATION:

Great area to explore on foot, lots of wonderful restaurants and unique shops and nightlife nearby. The Bowery isn't as convenient to a lot of the major tourist attractions as the midtown hotels are, but the neighborhood is much more appealing because it's actually a real residential neighborhood and not a commercial/tourist zone like midtown. The hotel is very close to a few different subway lines, so getting uptown is easy enough. Its location is one of its big selling points for me.

I definitely look forward to staying at the Bowery again!
