“Really tasty and uniquely prepared Mexican dishes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

Our party of 4 ate lunch at this restaurant, located down some steps from the sidewalk along 17th Street near Union Square. Service is pleasant, and the food is quite good. Start with the chips and guacamole, very tasty. I ordered the Mole Poblano Burrito, which contains refried beans, potatoes and mole sauce, served with cream, guacamole and chili sauce, all truly delicious. Two in our party ordered the mixed salad with chicken and reported that the salad was fresh and the chicken delicious. The fourth member of our party ate the Quesadilla Huitlacoche and also said it was very good. The dishes are creative blends of traditional Mexican ingredients and flavors. Well worth a visit.

“Nice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

I enjoy the Chilaquiles Verdes y Rojos con Huevos Poche for brunch, I've had them several times. Service is fine. Avoid being seated by the kitchen, its very noisy. The interior of the restaurant is dated but fine, the bathroom is a wreck. The host is very nice and quick.

“Fabulous Mexican with a French twist”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

For the last five years, a group of work colleagues attend a conference in Manhattan and never miss going to this gem of a restaurant in Chelsea. This time was no different and in fact, some if us returned for a second meal at Crema. Rafael, the restaurant manager greets people so warmly and treats diners like a welcome guest in his own home. He contributes hugely to the warmth of the place. The food is fabulous, fresh and innovative with a presentation worthy of fine French cuisine.
It is a place where the staff treat people graciously, the food and ambience perfect and contrary to criticism of the margaritas above, they are fine--- particularly, the tamarind ones.

We cannot wait to return to Crema!

“Great Mexican food with a twist”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

If you're a fan of traditional Mexican food (not tex mex mind you!) you'll enjoy this place a lot because the food is fantastic. But it goes far beyond the traditional here, it might start off with a quesadilla or simple fish taco as the basic concept but the chef then elevates it to a whole other level. French influences and technique are evident everywhere in the dishes but the flavors are soundly grounded in Mexican cuisine. All the dishes we tried were delicious and very carefully balanced, you get heat and spice and bold flavor in every bite but there's a lot of subtle nuances at play as well.

If you go, you really must order the scallops, they are simply outstanding. They've got this beautiful sear on them and they're served on these little mini corn cakes that are sort of reminiscent of a sweet cornbread, the accompanying sauce is spicy and hot but the dish also features mango and avocado so you get a cooling effect with it too, its pretty much a perfect dish.

Based off our meal alone I would have given this place a 5/5 but our server was kind of a [--] so I'm deducting a star for him. It was just so obvious he was trying to run our bill up as much as possible to get a bigger tip. It was restaurant week when we were there and he did everything he could to disuade us from ordering off that menu (as it turned out we split the difference and one of us got the prix fixe while the other ordered a la carte so we could try more dishes but his attitude just awful). And when I ordered a mid priced bottle of wine that I thought would pair well with the meal (and it did) he basically told me it was not that good and that I should order one of the most expensive bottles on the wine list because it was much better! Nobody likes rude, pushy service, it was the only bad part of an otherwise excellent meal, I would highly recommend trying it out.

“Good Modern Mexican Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

I dined at Creme with a large group of colleagues for an after work event during the week. Upon entering the restaurant, I was quickly and pleasantly greeted by the host. The decor is modern, yet it retains a bit of a traditional Mexican look. The restaurant is also dim with accent lighting that creates an intimate and warm ambiance.

Because I was with a large group, we didn’t order from the menu, but instead had several small plates of different dishes. The food was fresh and flavorful and the guacamole was very good. Our waiters were responsive and knowledgeable about the ingredients (one of my colleagues has a peanut allergy).

Overall, I would recommend Creme to anyone looking for modern Mexican cuisine in NYC.
