“Excellent base for the city and a great place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

Stayed in February for a NY weekend away. We chose the London because it looked modern and fancy and booked a London Vista Suite to make it extra special. The Suite was fantastic, on the 52nd floor with amazing views over North Manhattan and Central Park. It had a separate sitting room, lovely bedroom, dressing area and good sized bathroom, we loved it. The bed was comfy and the room was quiet being so high up. The hotel itself was lovely with a great bar area and fab selection of cocktails. The staff were very helpful and friendly, although we didn't need much assistance. It's very centrally located, near to 5th Avenue, Times Square and Central Park...perfect location. Didn't eat breakfast in the hotel but it is very close to Norma's in the Parker Meridien which does a fantastic breakfast, book ahead though. We did eat in Gordon Ramsay at The London though which which was amazing, expensive but amazing! I would highly recommend this hotel for a very stylish relaxing base for your stay in NY.

This was our first visit to New York as a special treat for husbands birthday! Couldn't have chosen a better hotel - staff great, check in easy, birthday treat in room really appreciated - help there if you needed it but not over powering.
Room for 5* still had cotton wool on floor in bathroom and bits on floor in living area but this is New York not London eh??!
Downside we had to ring 4 times for 3rd bed to be provided although booked last September and it was made available at 9:10 pm New York time - this was 2:10am our time and we had been travelling from 4am the morning before so could have been better!
Cocktails were really good in lounge - better 2nd night as staff appeared to get over attitude - didn't have food there as was slightly put off by that.
Would def stay in hotel again tho!

Room Tip: Choose a suite - as high as possible

We have stayed at The London several times, most recently this February. It is a great headquarters for visits to museums, restaurants, shopping, and Broadway shows. Times Square is in walking distance which negates the need to find a cab after a show. It is wonderful having walking access to the shows without living in the chaos of Times Square. We use the AMEX Platinum program which makes The London a very good value for the location and size of rooms.

For my annual trip to NYC to see shows, I have stayed at Sofitel on 44th, at The Michelangelo on 51st, and most recently at The London NYC on 54th. All three are very nice and, I think, very comparable to one another. But until this last trip, I had a mild preference for Sofitel, mostly because they offer pricing deals with regularity and it's a little closer to the Times Square. But my experience at The London was a very good one, and leaves me unsure which I prefer most. Yes, it is even further away than The Michelangelo, but it's very nice. And if you're going for shows, and plan to see something at Lincoln Center (as we did) or if you're doing anything closer to the Park, it's nicely situated half-way between Times Square and LincolnCenter/Central Park. The junior suites at these 3 hotels are so comparable (in quality and size) that it's hard to select one over another. Two things that The London has over the other two is better city views from your room, and better dining -- the Gordon Ramsey restaurant there is excellent. In all likelihood, I'll decide next trip based upon who's offering the best deal. And if they're all the same price, I'll probably go with either The London or Sofitel, and pick based upon which location was more convenient to my plans for that trip.

To be clear, this isn't quite Four Seasons or Trump quality, but it's only a half-step down ... for less than half the price! I'd give The London 4.5 stars, and highly recommend it.

My husband and I stayed 3 days at The London as part of our NYC honeymoon. The bellmen and front desk staff were all fantastic- very friendly and efficient. The room was spotless, chic, and comfortable and the location was great for daytripping around the city. There is a subway station close by, the Carnegie Deli is right around the corner, as well as a coffee/ lunch place called Fluffy's that we really enjoyed. I do wish the rooms had coffee makers, but I have no complaints whatsoever. Great stay!

Note: We would absolutely NOT recommend Gordon Ramsay's Maze restaurant within the hotel. Please see my review for details. Terrible experience!

Chose the NYC as it appeared central...wasn't disappointed. Modern hotel, suite spotless. Corner suite with brilliant view over Central Park. Mentioned it was a visit to celebrate a birthday and champagne and chocolates were delivered to the room on first night! Brilliant service. Would definitely stay again

Room Tip: High floor and corner suite made this perfect

Our family was in the city for just an overnight. We wanted upscale and midtown and we didn't want rooms that start at $865 (for one room), like the Mandarin Oriental.

The London is very reasonable for a family; our two bedroom suite was less than $650 per night. We were very happy with the value we got at the London.

Pros: Small but stylish lobby. Soothing spa-like color schemes. Good size 2br suite, nice bathroom with dual shower heads in the master. Beds, linens, good quality. 2br suite has three flat screens and roomy "living room".

Cons: Zero views. I don't think there was a bathroom fan, is that even possible? MBR does not have great soundproofing vis a vis the suite's living room. The second BR is only a full bed, it was okay for our two young girls.

Neutral: It amazes me how they manage to keep costs down and still make a room feel stylish and upscale. There is no furniture in the bedrooms; shelves at the bedside, a coat rack with shelves instead of an armoire, or a closet with a door.
