“Worth The Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

My wife and I recently stayed at the Mela. Check in was good, room was small BUT it's only a spot to refresh during the day and sleeping at night. Everyone very polite. AC went down for last 2 nights. The hotel gave us "passes" for a continental breakfast for two for 2 mornings. Got a deal for hotel through HotWire. We would stay again. Try Times Deli next door.

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights in July and with so much choice for hotels in New York we think we made a good choice.
The hotel is in a great location less than a minute from Times Square on the left and the Empire State Building less than a 10 minute walk. We didn’t need to get a taxi once.
The reception staff were welcoming when we arrived in the evening and there was no issue checking in and we went straight to our room. Our room was clean and tidy and we thought it was a good size considering what we had read about room sizes in NY. The bed was extremely comfy the bathroom was stocked full of toiletries that were replaced every day. Although it is so close to Times Square there is very little noise especially in our room (1508). You do hear the occasional siren but nothing that bothered us. There is free wifi throughout the hotel which was easy to log on to and very fast. It absolutely chucked it down with rain one night but the TV had plenty of choice of channels and films.
We did not eat or drink in the hotel as we like to go out and explore, there is a good little deli on the left on the hotel which was well stocked up with everything from drinks and food to toiletries. They also served fresh made to order sandwiches/breakfasts/omelettes etc too.
The hotel gym on the 2nd floor is small (2 running machines, 2 bikes and cross trainer with some free weights) which we used a few times but if there is more than 2 people in there it’s a bit close for comfort. Fresh cold drinking water and apples were provided inside. We also used the 2 computers just outside of the gym to print our return boarding passes for free which we thought was a really handy thing to have as I had checked in just needed to print my passes.
The hotel reception staff were really helpful in organising a taxi to the airport for us that was cheaper than just getting a cab as the price included tax, tolls etc plus it was in a 4x4 so a bit comfier too.
On checking out they did try and charge us for something in the mini bar which we didn’t have but when we mentioned this they were fine about it and made no issue. As we weren’t flying until 6pm they looked after our luggage for us securely until we were ready to leave for free.
Overall great location to be right in the middle of it all but with a good night sleep.

Room Tip: I think the higher up you are the quieter it is

This hotel is just 5 minutes from Times Square. We had 2 deluxe rooms on the 9th floor (we emailed the day before to ask for rooms on the upper floors due to previous reviews saying it was noisy). Hotel staff were excellent accommodating our requests. Both rooms were really quiet, very spacious, clean and comfortable.
There is an excellent cafe (un deux trois) opposite which serves great breakfasts.
On our last day we had a night time flight so we wanted to make the most of our final hours in the city after checking out of our rooms. The hotel has a secure storage area for cases and when we returned to the hotel they even provide a rest room so we could freshen up before leaving for our flight.

Room Tip: Our rooms were really quiet but I think rooms at the front on the first few levels would be noisy.

The location, just footsteps away from times square and all the shopping we wanted, was perfect. Our room was clean and everything smelled fresh. The lobby staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Great value!

Location was spot on, a minute away from Times Square, 5 minute walk from 5th avenue and about 10 minutes from the Empire State Building, found we only had to get a taxi once and subway once! Staff polite and friendly and rooms comfortable with a promised good nights sleep. People complaining about the space but personally found the rooms were plenty spacious and that beds were comfortable, would definitely come back again!

I spent one night recently at the Hotel Mela. My ONLY regret is that I couldn't have stayed LONGER!!! The room was outstanding, clean, modern, and comfortable. The location is a homerun as well!! Being close to Times Square, and the Theatre District lends itself to being a GREAT base of operations to explore all that Manhattan has to offer. I also found the staff to be highly professional and went out of their way to ensure that my brief stay was a true pleasure! My next visit to New York will definitely include a stay at Hotel Mela!

Our room was small but very clean. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful.

Great location round the corner to Times Square. Spoilt for choice for restaurants and diners

Only negative was constant humming of machinery outside window

Room Tip: ask to avoid machinery noise outside window
