“Watch your bill”

I stay in this hotel almost every month, and have for years. I stay there for location right by my office, not service. Service is hit or miss, but the most annoying thing is that the bill is usually wrong, specifically they charge for internet even though its suppose to be included, or things from the mini-bar that you did not use. When you call down they usually tell you to come and visit the front desk which of course is very crowded in the morning with checkouts. I suppose they figure once you are trying to leave you wont bother standing in line.

Boy - what a mistake this was - I booked on priceline thinking i'd get a 4 star room. I think if you stay on Floors 2 - 15 they are the old rooms - because my room looked no better than a Travelodge. Floor was dirty, Bathroom was way TINY. The room desperately looked tired. The Hallways were dingy, - I was on the 5th floor. I didn't feel like I was at a Hilton - especially in New York!

Bottom line is if you stay here, request a renovated room only - because if you don't this place is no better than 2 1/2 stars -

If planning a family trip to Manhattan I would recommend to avoid this hotel.
After paying 400$ per night for a room, WIFI is 20$ per day, breakfast 35$ each and bag storage 4$ per item. Lobby and bar is noisy and full of conference participants. Disable bathroom design is unusable due to flooding.

At first I booked the executive double doubles on the execuitive floor but based on the reviews for the double deluxe on trip advisor changed to these as I wanted a room that was updated decor over the continental breakfast/mini snacks and free soft drinks with the booking on the executive floor. The one thing I missed and regretted was the complimentary intenet access that came with the exec floor but that was about all I missed from the upgrade. Non exec floor guests have to pay for inetrnet access. $10 to log on computer and $1 per minute for internet access. Fitness centre also chargeable although I had not time or inclination to use it but for those that would like to have to pay.

Check in ok and they happily changed the room as it had a locked adjoining room I didn't feel comfortable with. Free room serviced iced water jug on request which was nice after our long journey. We were out early and back late and the hotel had a really lovely and friendly security guard to greet guests on return and check room keys which was good added security not just anyone was waltzing in. Reception area/lobby huge, busy and with so many people coming and going was a bit impersonal but ok. Late at night when we returned was quieter.

Bed and room were great. Wonderfully contemporary decor, largish room with soft pools of light from various lamps. Loved the lights in the head board. Fully operational A/C which I turned off as it was a bit too cold for me and I couldn't seem to turn it down. Room stayed reasonable cool temperature and not affected by 90 degree heat outside. Linen, white crisp and brilliantly clean. Maid service very thorough and good. Huge flat screen TV and caught up with the US Open on the tennis channel. Noise form outside can be heard but it's New York the city that never sleeps and it did not affect my sleep. Good bathroom decor and again wonderfully clean and modern. Crabtree and Evelyn comp soaps etc. Hand towels could have been slightly bigger, water pressure could have been better and drainage in bath very slow. Did report this but nothing seemed to be improved during our stay, wasn't the end of the world though. No flooding from shower on the floor was the ying to the slow drainage yang.

Bar. Stroppy bar man who begrudgingly gave a glass of ice and water "jokingly" not impressed I didn't return the glass when I asked for another the following night. I like to drink a ice cold glass of water before going to bed. I wasn't too chuffed with him as he seemed to forget I was a paying guest and not a waiter. His colleague was much nicer.

Didn't use any of the restaurants or other amenities so can't comment.
Front desk recommended Astro diner for breakfast, mins walk from the hotel on 6th avenue, a traditional american diner serving hot and continental breakfast. Fast, friendly service and reasonably priced.

New York City Pass was great value which I pre booked along with a night tour both recommended. Statue of Liberty ,even with our fast track New York City Pass, took an hour to get through the airport type security checks. I suggest getting to the attractions early (10am) to avoid the lengthy queues.

Was in NYC for Labor day weekend with my 13 year son and we had a truly great time. The hotel is minutes from central park and convenient subways. Times Square, Radio City Hall, Rockerfeller Centre and 5th avenue shops. Bryant Park (restaurants and eateries) is near too and there are two New York City Libraries with fre internet access. The Newark Express bus (every 15 mins) to and from Newark airport drop off is in Bryant Park and convenient 12mins or so walk to the hotel. Airport Bus round trip $25 and cheaper than a taxi.

I was prepared for the luggage charge but this was kindly waivered by a kind receptionist. However, I imagine most guests do pay $3.50 per item per day charge.
Service was good but the charge for the internet is just too steep and this is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.

I would recommend the Hilton New York for convenience, comfort and location and would stay there again, however, it's not cheap.

We decided to go away for the weekend to celebrate our 1st anniversary. Neither of us had ever been to New York. The Hilton is located very close to many main attractions. It is also very close to the subway. Attractions within walking distance include Times Square, 5th Avenue stores, Broadway, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Wax Museum, Ripley's Believe It or Not, Empire State Building and St. Patrick Church. We got to see all of this in 3 days. We were tired but wanted to take advantage of the perfect location.
The first night we paid $100 at TGIFriday's. Since we traveled on a budget we were worried about food costs. To our surprise there are food carts all over NY and all around the Hilton. We tried a couple of very cheap dishes but the best one was located right next to the Hilton (on the right side). Their chicken salads and gyros are amazing. Great meals for $5 or $6.
The room was small but I hear this is very common in NY. Overall, the room was spotless and comfortable. We only slept and bathed in here so the room worked for us.
The concierge was very nice and is always willing to give directions.
The best thing about this hotel is the location.
