I was generally disappointed with The Hilton New York. My boyfriend and I decided to stay as a Saturday night getaway. We booked the hotel on Priceline for $128 (before the taxes and astronomical service fees). To start, the lines to check in were relatively long. They have self-service kiosks, however when I went to use one to check in, it took me all the way through the process only to tell me that I needed to see an agent. None of the guests that I saw at the time were successful in checking in using the self-service kiosks.

When we got to the room, it was incredibly small. I know New York City hotel rooms are small, but this one was about the smallest that I have seen, period. The bed was a Queen (so they say, it looked like a full to me). My boyfriend is 6’ 7”, so a “queen” sized bed is quite uncomfortable for him. Moreover, the bed, although nicely made, had a huge stain of unknown origin in the middle. I called the front desk to see if they could switch the room to one with a King sized bed. I was informed that there were no more King rooms available, despite seeing 7 different King rooms to choose from when I attempted to check in using the kiosk just fifteen minutes prior. So I asked them if they would send housekeeping to change the sheets. Six phone calls and an hour and a half later, my boyfriend made an angry call to the front desk. He insisted that they send somebody upstairs with the keys to another room with clean sheets. They obliged. It’s not that we couldn’t be patient, but the room was so small that two people couldn’t exist in there without sitting on the bed and we certainly weren’t going to go near the bed with the “questionable” stain.

The second room was considerably larger, and the sheets were clean. The bathroom, however, wasn’t as clean as you would expect it to be. Everything was in its place, and there were an ample amount of clean towels, but the toilet had stains on the inner and outer portion of the bowl that looked like they could have been removed if they were scrubbed hard enough.

The whole experience did not make me feel as comfortable as I would like to feel when staying overnight. We made the best of the weekend by staying out as late as we could. I most certainly will not stay here again for any price, not because it was a complete disaster, but because there are so many other hotels in Manhattan, we don’t have to settle for disappointing service.

I stayed at the hilton new york for 2 nights when I went to NYC in june for a weekend getaway with my mom. Compared to other hotels i have stayed at in NYC, the hilton was much much cleaner. We needed a sewing kit at 9 am and within 5 minutes it was slid under our door so that we wouldn't have to open it. The concierge new EVERYTHING about the city. the view from my room on the 36th floor was AMAZING. The bathroom was very big compared to other NYC hotels and there was actually a tub not just a stall. The bed was very comfortable. The location of the hotel was perfect, right at the corner of 6th and 53rd so everything worth seeing in manhattan was basically walking distance. Because the rooms are so high, noise is not even an issue. I got an AWESOME rate on priceline (120/night)- the hotel normally goes for 250+/night for the basic rooms. I go to NYC every few months just for a change of scenery and I will DEFINTELY stay there again!

I stayed at the New York Hilton on an extended weekend trip. I had a wonderful time. The rooms were clean and bright with all the amenities. I was very impressed with the beds. They are the best of any hotel I had ever stayed with. The hotel has an impressive staff, which were both friendly and informative. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone and I would definitely stay here again when visiting New York.

Following a very reasonable Priceline bid, I secured the Hilton New York. Leading up to our stay, I was a bit hesitant given some of the negative things I'd read about other users' experiences at this property. That, and I attempted to secure a non-smoking, king size bedroom the week before our stay and was told that the hotel couldn't make those sorts of concessions/guarantees to a Priceline user.

However, my wife and I checked-into the hotel by noon; we had a lovely non-smoking room with a king-size bed, and enjoyed our stay immensely. The room was immaculate, well-proportioned, and featured a comfortable bathroom--all characteristic of any four-star property.

The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of most mid-town attractions--Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Central Park. My wife and I comfortably walk most places, and we enjoyed a comfortable walk too up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Most major subway lines are within a half-block of the hotel for those venturing downtown, to the Lower East Side, or into Greenwich Village.

In short, I'd highly recommend this hotel to those looking for a romantic weekend away from the kiddies.

Trip Overview: Took my mother to NY for her first time as a Mother's Day Gift. We stayed in New York for a long weekend June 9-12 at the Hilton New York.

Hotel Selection: I am an Honors Gold member so we wanted to use points for our stay. We did not want to stay in Times Square (and once we got to NY, I was happy we didn't!). The Milennium Hilton, while it looked like a gorgeous hotel, was just too far out of the way from the things that we wanted to do. So, that left us with the Hilton NY. I had stayed in this area of NY before and enojoyed it so we gave the hotel a shot. This hotel is a nice place. Big lobby and a couple of bar areas. Taxis always waiting outside. This hotel seemed to be mainly used for business people/conventions and lacked any kind of unique or special feel. Also, due to the size of the hotel, elevator time was sometimes a problem.

Upon arrival, we checked in at the Honors Desk and were upgraded to an "Executive Room" on the 35th Floor. Unless you really want the free continental breakfast, I think spending extra $$ on the Executive Room would be a rip-off! We entered the room and I could tell that it had not been updated. The room appeared dark and the bathroom was not very clean. I called the concierge and asked to be moved. She said someone would be right up to pick up our bags and move us to a remodeled room, but that we would still get the executive floor breakfast priveleges. After 20 minutes, no one came to get our bags so I went downstairs to get the new key for myself. We were moved to the 32nd floor into a remodeled room. It actually appeared to be a bit bigger and felt a lot lighter and cheerier. The modern TV area was much nicer. The bathrooms were pretty much the same in both rooms, but our 2nd room's bathroom did appear cleaner.

Pros: Comfortable room and very comfortable bed and linens
Nice desk workspace and sitting area
Cool flat screen TV and wireless internet
Neat MP3/Alarm clock deal
Abundance of cabs outside
Location is very good! Close to subway stops, Central Park and Times Square without being in the middle of a really loud area.
Windows open so you can let the cool breeze in

Cons: Remote and wireless access to the TV appeared to "lag" a bit.
Bathroom could be more updated and modern to fit with the rest of the room
Concierge service was rude and not helpful. There are some good books and maps to help you out at the concierge desk that you can take for free.
In general, service was extremely slow. I found it easier to just do things for myself.
Big hotel that lacks the charm of a smaller place
Elevators sometimes slow

Conclusion: A good comfortable and clean hotel, but definitely not a good value. It was fine for us since I used points, but the rate would have been about $500/nt (including tax). I think that is way too expensive, even by NY standards, for this hotel. I definitely think there are better values out there.

Other Tips: The Top of the Rock which is located nearby at Rockefeller Center has one of the best views of the city. Although I have been to NY several times, I had never even heard of this. Got some great pictures from up there and I thought the view was better than from the Empire State Building and also NO LINE!

Check out the Meatpacking District for some great places to eat and socialize. Seemed to be a pretty trendy, up and coming area.

Ride the subway! Although the hotel is very centrally located, explore other parts of the city. Using the subway was not very difficult and we found New Yorkers to be very friendly and helpful.
