“Hilton was okay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Hilton Midtown has a fabulous location; close to subway and buses. Close to Rockerfeller Center, MOMA, Carnegie Hall as well as shopping & restaurants. The staff is WONDERFUL but there are too few of them and the check-in lines are often long. The hotel is faded. THe furniture and rugs haven't been changed in at least a decade and are nicked and stained. The elevators shimmy like plane turbulence. But the rooms are clean and comfortable. Just don't accept a room where half the square footage has been devoted to the stairwell. And there are NO in-room coffee pots jus overpriced lobby coffee.

This is a very large hotel and inevitably rather impersonal but its prime location and convenience for sight seeing and shopping more than make up for that. It is nice to report that the Executive rooms have been modernised and given a thorough makeover and are now much more attractive. Bathrooms too have benefited with new basins and lavatories. There are now fridges in the rooms and, even better, they are empty so can be filled with items of your own choice. One minor drawback is that there is now less drawer space. Housekeeping kept the room immaculate. The Executive Lounge on the ground floor is a comfortable retreat serving complimentary hot and cold drinks throughout the day until 10 p.m. The cookies served in the afternoon are delicious! Breakfast is available there but it is rather limited and it can get very crowded at times. It also tends to get crowded around 5 - 6 p.m. when they serve cocktail snacks. It is a pity they still charge for WIFI in your room.

Hotel has very nice rooms and all areas are well maintained. The only let down for me was service. At check in we had no welcome at reception our details taken and just told what room number we were in and where the lift was. We were told nothing about the hotel or what was available. I was disappointed as I was in contact with the reservation manager before our trip as we were staying during my husbands 40th birthday. I was told that the hotel would make a note on our booking. I wasn't expecting any freebies just a simple Happy Birthday would of been nice. All we got was a call to our room on my husbands birthday asking us to attend the Hilton timeshare demo! I think my expectations were too high and this may seem petty to some people. But sometime small touches can make a big difference. The Hotel itself is a great location and the rooms are good so its only let down is service. So if your not worried about service then the hotel is a great base for exploring New York.

This hotel was great. Located in Midtown close enough to Times square and the theaters but not so close that it was noisy. Friendly staff and nice size room and nice bathrooms. I wish they would include internet service in the room rate

Spent 3 nights here and had a good stay. The location is the best thing about this hotel, so much is in walking distance. The room was fine, in need of an update, but clean and comfortable. Would stay here again for the location. Some renovation work is being done at the moment so we did hear drilling in the day, but it always stopped by 4 pm and did not start early so wasn't a problem.

I am a Gold Hilton member and do try to stay at this Hilton whenever I am in NYC. It is time for me to reconsider other options. My last visit the room looked so tired and used; I was really disappointed. It said it was a non-smoking room and it sure didn't smell that way. The decor was dated and it just seemed behind the times.

While I think the location is great- that is pretty much the only selling point of this property. I hate saying that and really dislike giving a Hilton a bad review but come on Hilton- time to start thinking about remodeling this old gem. I know it must be hard to keep up the decor and look of the hotel since it gets immense traffic from conferences, business people and tourists but it has to be done at some point.

If you are looking for an ideal location- stay here but know your room won't be so glamourous.

Yesenia checked us in and started us off to a great stay. She was so nice and helpful. We had a family member who had never been and she gave us rooms with great views. I always get a Deluxe room because they have been renovated, our room on the 10th floor was great. This is the first time we also got a room on the Executive level and we were glad we did. The room had been nicely redecorated and had a great view of Central Park, plus access to the Executive lounge with complimentary continental breakfast and drinks and snacks during the day. Both of these rooms were extremely large, clean and comfortable. This hotel is close to everything. You can walk to Broadway, Times Square, Central Park, 5th Ave. and Rockefeller Center. Carnegie Deli is just a couple of blocks over on 7th Ave. and the 53rd St. Deli across the street is great for grabbing drinks, snacks and a hot inexpensive breakfast. This is our 5th stay at the hotel. Thanks NY Hilton and Yesenia for a great stay!
