“Excellent food, trendy place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

Buddakan is really a hotspot and you feel it right when you walk in.
Me and my friend actually came here because it was featured in the Sex & the City movie and it makes you feel like you are in there.
We were a bit disappointed though that apparently there is also an upstairs dining area and that we were not seated in the main dining area with the amazing chandeliers.

However, that could not ruin the experience. The food, ambience, staff and cocktails were all great! I loved the black pepper beef and the mushroom noodles! Also the charm cocktail with fresh berries was so good and nice to look at!
The waiter suggested that we should take 2 appetizers and 2 entrees and a plate of noodles.
However: we decided to only take 2 entrees and the noodles to share and that really was sufficient (for 2 girls).

The only thing that really did not fit in the whole style of the restaurant were the restrooms!
There were only 2 (at least in the part of the restaurant we were in) and they really looked like you were in Starbucks or a gas station or something. Really: I would have expected some nice lounge with golden mirrors and nice handsoap or something, but this was just below average.
It did not match the ambience in the restaurant at all, I think they should do something about it

“Carrie Bradshaw's rehearsal dinner took place here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

We did this awesome 'Sex and the City'-tour and made a quick stop at this place, where the rehearsal diner took place. So we made a reservation for the next evening.
I thought it was awesome. The dishes were very special and the atmosphere was real mellow. I will definitely go back there.

“Delicious as it is stylish...that's tough!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

I went here on a whim, meeting up with a friend when she was off work. We snuck into a cozy cocktail area, amongst the majesty that is this massive restaurant. The décor was intense, the drinks were creative and well-made, every bite of food was divine. I can be a bit judgmental when it comes to places that are well-known from movies, seemingly all flash and no results...but this was different. I would totally recommend catching a meal or a snack with cocktails. I know you have to plan a bit ahead for prime time reservations, but go ahead and duck in early if you want to have an easy time of it.

“The hip atmosphere belies the very good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

Buddakan has a cavernous main dining hall with several smaller dining rooms leading off it, and is filled with typical hip NYC clientele. It may be large and it may cultivate a chic atmosphere but it stills serves very good food.

The waitress explained that whilst the menu is set out in conventional fashion with appetisers and main dishes to choose from, in practice each dish arrives at the table as soon as it is ready, so it's better to order an assortment of dishes to share. Indeed it's quite possible simply to order a selection of appetisers to share and have plenty to fill you up. We had several delightful starters including prawns in a spicy sauce and pork dumplings which were particularly good.

We found the service in the restaurant to be efficient and reasonably attentive. But watch out for the service in the bar where the barman was arrogant and "accidentally" short changed us when we paid.

Overall, though, it was a very pleasant evening and I would undoubtedly return.
