Checked out of The Blue Moon Hotel on Sunday.. following a 3 night stay, simply wonderful!! My husband, two adult sons (mid-20's) and I VERY MUCH ENJOYED our entire experience. The hotel is exactly as pictured... a sweet entry - located across the street from the Tenement Museum, at 100 Orchard St, one block south of Delancey. The hotel is 8 stories high... originally 5, top three added on. The lobby is furnished with little tables, chairs, window seats... shelves are chock full of items found on the original property - when the owner (an artist) purchased and proceeded to create the hotel. It's charming.. simply charming. The staff is WONDERUL... eager to please, to get to know their guests.. they each make you feel like you're returning HOME.. to your NYC FAMILY... after a time away. EVEN the elevator is charming, if such a thing can be believed! It clicks along, binging as it passes each floor, tin walls on the high sides, a Van Gogh painted ceiling.. oak lower sides... blessedly, ours opened up on the 7th floor.. into a hallway filled with more art, a lovely mantle.. our room was on the front (west) side of the house, the Molly Picon suite. WOW!! It's huge.. a separate little kitchen area with mini fridge, gas stove (guts are out), it's just an attractive piece of the past, with a wall plug hanging above, great place for charging phones and laptops (free wifi), a shelf that we used for snax, etc, a bar sink.. yay!!
LR has sofa bed, big round table with 4 large chairs, a credenza with big flatscreen... double oak doors with floor to ceiling windows - with more skinny windows at the sides, leading out to an AMAZING TERRACE with an INCREDIBLE VIEW of downtown. Freedom Tower to the left, Empire State and Chrysler Building to the right, planters full of flowers, four wrought iron chairs... twirly wrought iron wrapping around terrace at perfect elbow height, a tiny glass table, perfect for wine glasses... I brought some battery operated candles with me and put them out each night.. it was magical!!
Off the living room, separated by huge oak double doors is the bedroom... with a super comfy queen bed, closet, dresser, two side tables.. then, a lovely black and white bathroom... loads of fresh towels daily, plenty of shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, MOUTHWASH... HUGE bath tub/shower... completely tiled, so NICE!!!
Forgot the closet off the LR, as you enter the room, has a safe in it...
I truly hesitate to write this as I will return.. and I will stay in the Molly P again.. unless, of course, Louise talks me into the Marx Bros next time.. which is supposed to have an even bigger terrace... with an amazing view of the Williamsburg Bridge.
The staff called us cars whenever we left... arrived fast, with friendly, nice drivers, great rate.
I could go on and on and on and on but I think you're getting my drift. The LES is SURROUNDED by great restaurants.. (Babycakes Gluten Free bakery is a must!!), great bars, if you're headed to NYC for touristy stuff, do yourself a favor and book the Blue Moon. The rooms are huge, the location is superb and the staff is like family.
SO MUCH BETTER than our usual stays uptown... SO MUCH MORE FUN!!
