“Romantic dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2014

Del Posto was one of the finest restaurant experiences I've ever had. I've been to a few of Mario's other restaurants but this one was superior on many levels.

If you have time: try a cocktail at the bar prior to your seating. They have several unique listings on their menu and the lighting is dim and very elegant.

There was a pianist playing in the dining room which added to our romantic experience. The sommelier helped us choose a bottle as the wine list was very extensive. He was spot on with his recommendation.

You choose between the 5 or 8 course prix fix tasting menu. It was truffle season during our visit - not sure if they offer the addition of truffles to your courses year round.

We had a late reservation and ended up being the last table in the restaurant. We never felt rushed and as a matter of fact, our waitress brought us a special additional dessert after we finished our tasting menu.

“Super Italian”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2014

From start to finish our dining experience was wonderful. The staff were very courteous and helpful. The food perfect from the Amuse Bouche to the last mouthful. A subtle combination of flavours in all the courses.
We shall return

“Disappointed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014 credit card Amex Card Member Review

The restaurant was beautiful and the service very good. We had the tasting menu. We felt that the food was not noteworthy. It was not particularly special and too salty. My lobster was bland. We were unable to hear about the wines do his soft voice and noise in the restaurant. For this much money the experience should have been better.

“Ambiance, service, and food - outstanding, nothing less...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

If you are reading this, you are probably going to go to this restaurant. You should. We went on recommendations of friends. It is difficult to describe the experience in a short review, and rather than repeat all of the wonderful reviews, I'll just add a couple points.

The surroundings are like an old vaulted bank, spacious and open, so that, unlike most NYC restaurants, it is not loud. It feels intimate and you never have another table under your elbow, again unlike many NYC restaurants. We got there early so we would be sure to catch our show that night, and it allowed us to check out the bar. It's worth it to sit and have a drink to simply admire the bar. We were able to be seated at 530 and finished the five course meal by 715 to head back for a show, but a larger party would have taken longer, and you don't want to rush this experience. Two hours would be the minimum amount of time you would want to spend here.

Unlike a few unfavorable reviews, it is not stuffy, but I would recommend that you wear at least a jacket and probably a tie, if not a suit.

Unlike a few other reviews, the service is not over the top, but what you would expect from a grand North American restaurant, where service is measured by attentiveness, personable staff and presentation. Each course was thoroughly explained and staff were professional, engaging and left no need unmet. No questions were to simple to ask concerning dinner recommendations and wine paring.

The food was outstanding, the tastes were enjoyable, unusual and not to complex to confuse the palate. I found the five course dinner to be wonderful and recommend it. We had rather different dinners, but I shutter to think that anything negative can be said about this food. I had all seafood dishes and my wife had veal. Both were outstanding.

There was a pianist in the foyer, a real nice touch. The room itself is rather magnificent. Honestly, I did not want to leave this place.

About the cost, I would say it is on par with what you pay at a fine restaurant. It is worthy of a special occasion and you will find it to be incredible.

“Wow...Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014 via mobile

One of the best dining experiences ever! You have a choice of an 8 course or 5 course for $176 or $126 respectively. We chose the 5 course....began with lobster salad and veal entree....then two different pastas and our entrees....veal chop and duck breast. Ending with great desert and wonderful supporting tasty items. Service is overwhelming to almost a fault.....could be difficult to have a serious conversation without being interrupted. Loved this place and cannot wait to return......jacket for men encouraged
