I went to EVS for the first time with a buddy a few nights ago. What I found was a tiny place packed with character, and packed with boisterous locals whooping it up. A fun little place. Decor is sort of "Southern Rustic", barnboards & stuff. The barstools are repurposed metal tractor seats. The mixed drinks come in mason jars & the shots are served in mini red Solo cups. The small menu is informed by Southern comfort food, and is very reasonably priced. Beers are like $5 or $6. The cheap (for NYC!) eats & drinks are a welcome relief in the uber-trendy East Village. Live music sometimes, too. Sit by the window for a view of the action on St Mark's Place.
