“Convenient hotel near to some of the best shopping”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

I stayed at this hotel one night on an award stay due to the convenient location to a number of meetings I had the following morning.

This hotel is very conveniently located near all the shopping on 5th avenue. All the best spots are near by, Apple Store, Bergdorf, and plenty of other high end retailers.

Rooms are adequately sized, though not spacious, but that's to be expected given the location. The Lobby / Lower Lobby is a bit confusing with the different sets of elevators, but manageable. Staff was friendly enough, though I wish the roof top bar stayed open past 11pm.

This is sort of a European feel, with small rooms designed for maximum utility. Nice Queen size beds, a nice 37-inch flat screen TV, and your basic amenities in the bathroom. Could use more closet space and perhaps a few more staff, but I was there the week of the hurricane and several staff may have been absent. It's part of the Marriott chain. If you can get a nice room rate, there's nothing wrong with this place. It's location is great for shopping, business and transportation, right at 57th and Lexington, accessible to subways and crosstown bus. The room was clean.

Used points but loved staying in the Mid town area. We walked to Central Park and the Theatre . The rooms were small but very quiet and comfortable. Besides we were only in there to change clothes and sleep. Cool hotel and the nicest staff of anyplace I have stayed. Everyone was so nice, and helpful. Got some nice perks due to status also. I would recommend this to anyone, it was a wonderful weekend.
We got ripped off by the pedal taxi, he charged us 148.00 for a 10 block ride.. It was at night and I really thought we would get hit by a car, he had no lights on it. Use regular taxis , lesson learned.. Didn't see the fine print at 11p that said per person and he would not volunteer the info even though I asked for the cost twice.

I arrived in the city the day before the storm hit. It was absolutely unnerving not know what would happen hour to hour. That's when the hotel came to the rescue. I would personally like to thank the staff of the Renaissance, and especially Kayla and Jonathan in the bar and Nicole at the front desk, for taking care of our every need. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and safety. The professionalism and preparedness was unmatched. I will gladly tell everyone about this gem in the city. Thank you for everything!

The hotel is very conveniently located relatively to meetings that we have with usual clients, so my husband had stayed there before, long time ago, then stopped staying there, and after long time he sort of forgot why he stopped staying there so we went back. The rooms are relatively spacious but not particularly stylish, the restaurant and lobby are pretty and staff are all very very friendly and certainly try to make up for the terrible service (they..) provide. We had our laundry forgotten, twice (or both times we asked to have some laundry done), we had once dinner at the restaurant and they did not bring us the food we ordered, and after they forgot to bring us the bill, and subsequently left us waiting for 20 min without a pen to sign. I had breakfast downstairs once and I din' t get what I ordered (I had to send it back). For $600/night I normally expect a better service, so unless you find a mega bargain ($150/night) there is much better in the area. In fact we were meant to stay 2 weeks, but after the first week we moved to the Benjamin (same price, much much much better service and room quality..). Oh I forgot, I found an empty coca cola bottle under the bed that seemed to have been there for a while, it was not mine.. so somewhat I wonder how good the cleaning service really is..

It's called a boutique hotel and it is which is not your typical Marriott/Renaissance establishment. The room was smallish, but very nicely appointed, quiet, and comfortable. Excellent bed. We stayed here on an award for a night on the weekend before Hurricane Sandy visited. The staff was very friendly and outgoing and seemed genuinely interested in making sure our stay was excellent. The breakfast was very good, though nothing special, and seemed to reflect the need for this Marriott chain location to offer standard fare. Opia is an independent restaurant located inside the hotel and I would guess would be outstanding for dinner. The location is very good - midtown and one block from Park Ave and in an area with many other hotels. It is only two blocks from the 59th/Lexington subway.

Room Tip: Opia was hosting a Halloween party (loud) but we were on the 13th floor and didn't hear a thing...

Booked online with Marriott points, Had a room on 16th floor, not much view. A few issues - don't recommend you ask the hotel to arrange JFK pick up, company they booked for us charged $107 which is a rip off. Room was not ready on arrival, so we were given vouchers for a free drink each worth $15 which is about the price of a cocktail which is all well and good but we just wanted to get in the room and get changed after the flight. Room is ok actually, bigger anyway than the ones in the Hudson hotel and bathroom is good size. Towels very small, no slippers and no bathrobes. Limited drink making facilities. Watch out for walking into the bed base as it's a wooden frame. Had breakfast in Opia on Saturday and Sunday mornings which was ok but have had much better elsewhere. A la carte only, no buffet, so you couldn't for example have fruit and French toast/eggs, etc.. Very surly maître d, if that's what he is. Very unfriendly and as if everything we asked for was too much trouble. Roof terrace has views of Chrysler building but can't see the Empire State. Good nail spa next door. Lifts are a bit old but no problem having to walk across the concierge area and walking down the stairs to get out. Very noisy laundry cupboard door on floor 16 which woke us up early this morning with repeated opening and closing. Seems popular choice for rehearsal dinners and Hallowe'en event. Beds comfortable.
