“Ueber-hip and artsy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

Walking into the reception of this hotel you are welcomed by an impressive art collection which follows you throughout the hotel. The chambers have strong colour schemes, adventurous, yet tasteful. The main bar and rooftop area are a must see. Much as we enjoyed going out and seeing the sights and sounds of the city, we always looked forward to coming back to our room, a testimony to how much we enjoyed our stay.

I stayed in a suite with my wife. The decor was absolutely beautiful. Very unique and not like any other hotel we've stayed at. Bathroom was very nice. It was a great value for the price. This hotel definitely has its own charm and is not like the standard cookie cutter chain hotels you will find everywhere. The bellman took us into the locked Gramercy park and let us in to enjoy this private treat in the midst of the city. The coffee and toast was among the best I've had anywhere, and that's saying something.

Having visited New York on a number of occasions, we've had the opportunity to stay at a variety of hotels. Our recent stay at the GPH, however, was truly spectacular.  Arriving in the evening, we were greeted by the beautiful, moodily lit and very fragrant lobby.  Check-in was smooth and professional.

The room, too, was evocatively lit, with a votive glowing on the night stand.  Family surprised us with a lovely bottle of champagne which staff had left on ice on the sparkling, mirror-backed bar.  After a long day, we appreciated the great shower, soft pillows and comfortable mattress.

In the morning we had breakfast on the beautiful roof-top terrace.  While there, we explored that floor's public spaces which, again, are wonderfully eclectic with a great selection of modern art from Warhol, Hirst and Condo.  It was great to be able to access Gramercy Park (reserved for hotel guests and those residing in homes on the park's perimeter) for a few minutes of tranquility before another full day ahead.

Overall we loved the elegant yet casual feel of the hotel and its bohemian-mix decor.  Our room was very clean and comfortable and staff friendly and professional.  The art, flowers and wonderful Maialino restaurant made our stay memorable.  Would love to have spent more time in the public spaces adjacent the lobby but our busy schedule didn't allow it.

In short, our GPH experience actually surpassed our expectations and we will definitely visit again ..... sooner than later, nous esperons!

My wife and I stayed for a few nights in a Deluxe room over Labor Day weekend.
Pros:
- the deluxe room is good size
- love the decor and the large table with chairs and sofa
- comfy bed
- didn't find the room lacking for anything
- nice bath in retro 1920s style
- I like staying in this part of Manhattan
- cool lobby
- the roof terrace for breakfast is very nice with excellent food and espresso
Cons:
- we had a long wait to check in
- while the service was good it wasn't Ritz level and seems pricey even in NYC
- had problems with our air conditioning - it worked, but weakly - couldn't get temp below 77 days, 73 nights - never completely resolved despite three calls including manager - disappointed that there was never any follow up by staff to insure problem fixed
- hard to find power outlets for phones/ipads/etc - after crawling around plugging things in found an outlet in the base of one lamp (the room was well lit but most everything is a dark color so things like outlets don't stand out

Summary:
We'll may try them again. I assume the air conditioning problem was an anomaly (???) but disappointed with lack of follow up and concern for our satisfaction.

Very good location next to a private park. The staff here make this hotel top notch. Seventy Five dollars to valet a car overnight seems a little steep. The water pressure is not that good is not that great for a high end hotel. The drinks were great in the lobby lounge. The rooftop terrace restaurant was quite lovely. I would suggest this hotel fro anyone. Shopping is very close by. The cafe downstairs is nice too. Elevators are slow.

Room Tip: Don't use the stairs, you will get lost

sink blocked
bathroom too small
no hot water
air conditioning did not work 80 degrees in room
told manager about it and he said thanks for letting him know..I told him something should be done. Told him to verify it and I would be back to pick up my bags..when I came back a few hours later he saw me and ran from the front desk into the back to avoid me...Class is how you handle things not where you work.....

I stayed here on a discounted QuikBook deal, and while I enjoyed my stay a lot, I think that there are so many nice options in New York now that GPH isn't worth the added premium. The lobby is beautiful, and it was lovely to enjoy a key to the park. It's great to be located next to Maialino restaurant, and the Gramercy Terrace is very pleasant. That said, the rooms are rather small, and the bathrooms are rather cramped. If I can find this hotel on a deal under $250, I might do it again but I definitely wouldn't over $300.
