“Inventive and delicious small plates”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2014

Mercadito deserves its great reputation. The room is small, the tables very cramped, but the food is excellent. One odd thing is that you can't get a coffee there after your meal - not a big problem really, as there are so many excellent espresso places in the neighborhood.

“Simply great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

I had steak tacos (around 14 USD) which were just what I was looking for. Lots of flavour packed into four nicely arranged tacos. I also tried the creme anglaise-soaked Mexican bread with ice cream for desert which did not disappoint at all. Both dishes do not pretend to be more than what they are: simple, well-prepared and great-tasting food.

Service was quick, but I was there early when just a few tables were occupied. Restaurant is small, so this is not the place for a quiet dinner. Not an elegant place, but perfect for a fun dinner with friends.

I would definitely eat there again.

“Want Flavour: Head Over to the East Village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

The modest little Mercadito in the East Village will likely serve you well for a casual evening of Mexican. During the warm summer months the front of the restaurant is open to the street. It really is difficult to complain about tucking into a zesty queso fundido & sipping a couple Modelo cerverzas.

Our server was attentive. Service was maybe a bit too fast. Our mains arrived while we still had our apps on the table. We shared shrimp and fish tacos. Both packed flavour and both fish & seafood were seasoned and cooked in the proper fashion.

The price is extremely reasonable and you will be well taken care of.

“Best Real Mexican in NYC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

this place is amazing! I go alot to the one on the west village and this one is much bigger and have a nice back room! the food is even better than in mexico specially the tacos and the guacamole. This is not your usual Tex-Mex so dont expect a burrito. everything is delicious and they have great happy hour!
