“Dreadful Food/High Prices With Okay Music”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012

Positives high energy with nonstop instrumental/singing by staff and paid singers.
Negatives: dreadful food with extraordinarily high prices. Example, small portion of pasta with just a smear of sauce $28. Dinner for two people $190. Adjusted for quality and portion size I would break down the allocation of costs as follows $94 food and drink and $100 for entertainment. Noise level too loud for conversation.

No visible menu posted outside the restaurant prior to being seated. Isn't this against New York regulations?
The bottom line - you have been warned.

Da M, General Manager at Da Marino Restaurant, responded to this review, June 6, 2012
Dear Reviewer,

To clarify we do not charge for entertainment here at Da Marino. As you can see from the other .reviews posted that it isn't often we hear from a reviewer that our food was "dreadful" . We only use the highest quality ingredients in our food. You mentioned that you received a $28 pasta with just a "smear" of sauce. We do not serve a pasta with just sauce. There are many expensive ingredients in our pastas that do cost money. While admittedly we are a little more expensive than say a restaurant in Oklahoma or even on 8th ave NYC we believe it is justified do to the quality of ingredients and location. As you can imagine NYC is already expensive but Times Square NYC next to two of the most popular Broadway shows is extraordinarily expensive for rent and overhead. This is not the quietest restaurant around because we like to have a little fun and interact with our guests. FYI our menu is posted online and no we feel it is tacky to put it in front of the restaurant. Instead we put flowers that make the neighborhood more beautiful. Thank you Trip Adviser for allowing us to respond to this review.

Ciao,

Da Marino Management

“Delicious food!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012

Stopped for dinner to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. The food was very well prepared and our waiter Vadim was awesome. He was in awe that we were actually married for 25 years being we were only 48 years old...a rare find today I guess. The wine was very pricey but it was a special occasion and we were worth the extra cost. Vadim insisted we try a sample of their signature Chocolate pasta with a nice pink cream sauce and shrimp...very tasty. The chef specially prepared seared sea scallops at our request for they were not on their menu... presented in a nice lemon flavored sauce also very very good and probably should be put on their menu. We continued with Caprese appetizer...fresh mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, basil, flavorful olive oil and tasty marinated peppers...also delicious. Our main meal were the Gameroni alla Marino...a sauteed shrimp in a wonderful sauce topped with a smoky mozzarella paired with a side of scallop potatoes...very, very good. Hubby had the twin Filet Mignon special in a Chianti sauce and sliced grapes...a great combination. His dinner was paired with sauteed spinach with garlic and a whipped mashed potato. Oh my...it was like butter...extremely good and worth every penny. Our dinner was topped off with a special treat from Vadim....dessert was on him for our special occasion...a wonderful homemade Tiramasu surrounded by thinly sliced fresh fruit with chocolate sauce! Yum!! My husband is the big Tiramasu fan and he said it was the best he had ever eaten...it was the owners homemade recipe and you could tell it was not commercially made!

I can understand the other reviewers commenting on the over attentive staff...they are guilty of that...but they are so eager to please with such an enormous amount of competition in the restaurant industry in NY. Some of the pasta dishes may be a bit over priced but $55.00 for two nice sized Filet Mignons with 2 sides is not pricey, especially in the theater district. We have paid more than that for one Filet Mignon in Atlantic City and it was not as good. The ladies room is a bit over the top...I was afraid of setting myself on fire with all of the candles that also made it very difficult to see yourself in the mirror. It was a very hot day and it was a little stuffy in the restaurant but the excellent food made up for it. I would definitely recommend this little Italian restaurant...you will not be disappointed...

“Excellent martinis, outstanding entertainment and good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. The atmosphere is fun and festive. Initially we were greeted with music and singing at the piano bar. The entertainment transformed to include a trumpet, and singing which started a "restaurant party." Majorie was the mixologist for the evening. When I asked for a martini, she asked me what flavors I liked and designed the perfect martini. YUM! The entertainment was the highlight of the evening.

The food was good, but not as good as the entertainment.

I will be back for the entertainment and martinis.

“Loved this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2012

We were given free champagne while we waited only 10 minutes for a table! Service was excellent! They had a piano/singer throughout the evening. A large selection of pasta dinners and the food was great! At the end of the meal we were given free Grappa liqueur!
At the end of the meal my son told the waiter he had one of the best experieces he ever had at a restaurant. The waiter said, 'Thank you. We work really hard'.
P.S. You have to check out the ladies room! I actually took a picture of it! That is a first! :)
