“Great boutique hotel, prime location, great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2010

Danny took great care of us again. We loved our marble bathroom and enjoyed our studio apartment room. I would return again and recommend this place for any couple looking for a unique boutique hotel.

Great location, no bed bugs, walked everywhere. The price was good for the location. Shared a suite with 2 others. Two slept in comfy bed with memory foam, the other person slept on a fold out cot - which was rather uncomfortable. Everything was okay- not fancy. Walked up three flights of stairs with our cases - and we are over 60 years of age! Small fridge/coffee maker and microwave in the living room.

Let me start by saying this was the first time staying at one of these NY "apartment" hotels. Accommodations are not anything like a chain hotel nor are they like a B & B. The unit we were in was in a building shared by people that live there year round. There is no place to check in or go to if you have any questions. At one point near check in time, we tried calling the telephone number and got an automated message. Luckily, it wasn't something that we needed an immediate response for. The "suite" was clean but a bit old - red carpeting and gold bedding. Seemed the bed and living area should have been reversed but somehow it was OK. There was a small refrigerator in the room as well as a coffe pot however, there were no filters or coffee in the room so unless you went out and bought your own filters and can of coffee (or tea) it was useless. Bathroom was clean, however, the door's handle was a just a turning lock (no handle) and it squeaked terribly. The entry door to the building, which was accessible by a code given to us prior to check-in - was unlocked more than locked during our 2 night stay. Our room was a 2-floor walkup and we certainly heard comings and goings for tenants during the wee hours of the night. Having said all this, we probably paid at least $100 LESS than any other room available in the area and did get to stay on the upper East Side, which is where we wanted to be. Very safe neighborhood with great restaurants. Bring your own tissues as they are not provided but there is a huge - like 65" -big screen TV. Go figure! Not a bad stay if you know what to expect.

My first trip to New York was an absolute blast. I travelled with my sister and we stayed in the Upper East Side in an apartment hotel we found on line for a steal. The 254 East Vacation is on a quiet and safe residential street.
The apartment itself was very clean and spacious, trendy and had a homey feeling. The living room was huge with leather sofas, big screen tv over a fireplace and two small bay windows overlooking the tree lined street below,
I felt very much like Carrie in her apartment in "Sex in the City."
The location is perfect to all New York has to offer. We walked to Braodway for a play (1.8 miles) and Central Park
for a carriage ride (only 5 blocks walk). Also great restaurants in the area.La Guardia only a short drive away.
I would also recommend "On Board" bus tour. With a tour guide and airconditioned bus and water you get to see
and experience all the major attractions in one day! We spent 3 days and four nights and saw and did all there was to see and do in this great city.Would happily return and stay at this apartment/hotel.

Staying in the Upper East Side made us feel like real New Yorkers. We were within walking distance of many of the art museums and Central Park and the subway was just a few blocks away. Having a small kitchen was great for having leftovers from some of the good restaurants nearby (Amber, Candle Cafe).

Only negative was the lack of WiFi. I would have to go to a nearby coffee shop to get access.

This felt like home! I loved it so much I extended my stay so I stayed in room #5 and room #2. The neighborhood and the people were wonderful. My rooms were exactly as pictured, jacuzzi tub, marble fireplace, recessed lighting, beautifully remodeled. This is an apartment without hotel amenities but also without the usual commotion that accompanies hotels. I did not see nor hear another guest the 5 days I stayed. I had everything I needed in my kitchenette and bath. This is how to live like a true New Yorker. Great shopping on Lexington. Fruit carts every block. Organic groceries and restaurants (loved Slice). Beautiful part of Central Park at the end of the street. Walked to museums. On Friday Park Avenue (3 blocks away) was closed to traffic for a day of fun. This place was heaven for me!

Not like the pictures on the website, needs major cleaning and updating. Wireless did not seem to work well as everyone was sitting on the stairs in the hall as we arrived.
