“Extremely disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2014

What was meant to be the main reason for coming to NYC, turned out to be one big disillusion. Even though the programming was world class, it was spoilt by the personnel of the estabishment. Extremely unfriendly, took away what might have been a good atmosphere and treated us, and others, like kids. I think it's time management and personnel attended a course on friendliness and manners, or perhaps even better, change management and management style.

“The Monday Night Big Band is a New York Classic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra has made its home at the Village Vanguard every Monday night since 1966. It is composed of many of the top jazz musicians in New York. Monday night at the Vanguard is an absolute must for any jazz fan visiting New York.
It is a very popular event so reservations are really needed. Even with a reservation it would be a good idea to arrive early to get the best seat.

“Too Cool”

For jazz aficionados, this is the place. Ambience plus and a history that ekes out of the walls. Enjoy!

“Overpriced and too strict”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

Visited here for a Jazz evening and saw the Heath Brothers. Must say first that the Jazz was great and the Heath Brothers and Co were fantastic. The venue - a dark and dingy basement club that needs a good fettle. All guests were crammed in to the front and we had four to a tiny table towards the front - the venues choice not ours - despite there being plenty of room towards the back. For this we were charged $30 EACH for 1hr 15 min performance. Then charged a further $30 for two cokes and two small beers. Only got served the once so had to make the beer last. If you want to visit a Jazz club in New York there are many more charging similar prices for a better venue and experience. My mistake for choosing this one.

“Authentic NY Jazz club in the Village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

This was a jazz lover's dream come true! The Vanguard is an intimate venue of legendary importance. True jazz greats play here and have played here for many years. Tables and chairs are close together, the stage is low and close to the audience so you can really communicate with the musicians. It was a very special experience and the jazz (the Heath brothers) was incredible. Loved it and will be back next time we are in New York.
