The Beacon theater is beautiful inside, as other reviewers have said. Although a bit kitschy, it has one quality for sure: most of the seats have good views of the stage. Anyone who´s been to a few theaters in NY knows that there are seats where you can´t see large portions of the productions. From where I was seated, this definitely doesn´t seem to be the case w/ the Beacon.
However, what really put us off was the production on stage, Banana Shpeel. I think this is the first Cirque show I watched that was so weak. Although the acrobatics and dancing are very good, the storyline doesn´t hold together. The characters are caricatures, the lines are shallow and the whole thing doesn´t bring out any kind of emotion whatsoever! The "clowns" are weird and their acts are not well woven into the story. There´s even one clown act that actually already appeared in an old Cirque production, Quidam. Couldn´t they at least write something new for this show? Really expected more from Cirque.
