“Theater beautifully restored; Banana Shpeel total waste of Cirque talent”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2010

The Beacon theater is beautiful inside, as other reviewers have said. Although a bit kitschy, it has one quality for sure: most of the seats have good views of the stage. Anyone who´s been to a few theaters in NY knows that there are seats where you can´t see large portions of the productions. From where I was seated, this definitely doesn´t seem to be the case w/ the Beacon.
However, what really put us off was the production on stage, Banana Shpeel. I think this is the first Cirque show I watched that was so weak. Although the acrobatics and dancing are very good, the storyline doesn´t hold together. The characters are caricatures, the lines are shallow and the whole thing doesn´t bring out any kind of emotion whatsoever! The "clowns" are weird and their acts are not well woven into the story. There´s even one clown act that actually already appeared in an old Cirque production, Quidam. Couldn´t they at least write something new for this show? Really expected more from Cirque.

“Beautiful Theatre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2009

As a visitor from the UK, I primarily wanted to see the restoration of the Beacon Theatre. Although being a live music fan, I had not heard of the band 'Mannheim Steamroller', but thought it a good opportunity get a look inside this fine old theatre.

The theatre is wonderful. A credit to the people who restored it and those who continue to maintain it. As for the Mannheim Steamroller; well, pretty uninspiring in all honesty. The guys on the sound desk were obviously not doing their job. We were right alongside them, and how they could ignore the terrible bass resonance, god only knows. Every time the bass player hit certain notes, it totally wiped out any other sound.

As bad as the performance was, at least it gave us the opportunity to explore the interior of this beautiful theatre.

“Beuatifully Restored Classic Venue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2009

The Beacon Theater is a wonderfully ornate performance venue that truly embodies the vision of the word "theater". The beautiful walls and ceiling are encased in bold colors and gold tapestries. The sounds system is top notch and attracts many top name musical acts, such as Van Morrison. Each of the three seating tiers provides an excellent view of the stage, no matter how high or how far to the side you are located. Bars and snack vendors cater to patrons on every level, offering a variety of cocktails and treats.

The Beacon Theater is truly a classy, serious spot perfect for basically any performance.
